About the Role
The Safety Officer – Contractor position is a critical role that requires a highly skilled and experienced professional to ensure the implementation of Integrated Management System (IMS) and compliance with legal requirements, standards, policies, procedures, and other requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Utilise the self-assessment tool to ensure that all elements of IMS are implemented in areas of responsibility.
- Ensure that incidents are logged, verified and investigated on IsoMetrix.
- Monitor that the agreed upon actions in operations are implemented and escalated if overdue.
- Ensure that all users are trained on all relevant SHERQ systems.
- Inspect and ensure that PPE is relevant for the task and in good condition.
- Coach and train on relevant work instructions and compliance issues relevant to the plant.
- Facilitate hazard and critical task/activity identification (activity-based risk assessment)
- Facilitate the review of task procedures and work instructions applicable to the plant
- Facilitate and confirm PTO evaluations
- Ensure and confirm HIRA and clearance certificate (PTW) issued
- Ensure that audits are done on the PTW and all deviations escalated to relevant departments.
- Ensure that all contractors and sub-contractors comply with the Client’s contractor management procedure in the area of responsibility.
- Ensure that conversation cards, hazard tags, near misses and PTO’s are reported in the weekly SHERQ report and in the monthly SHERQ meeting in the respective areas.
- Analyse the indicators and associated risks and assist with the implementation of solutions to address the problem.
- Feedback to management on indicator status in order to ensure KPI improvement
- Identify and advise on training needs analyses and training recommendations, especially to resolve identified system and process competence shortfalls
- Monitor and report the status of training on the weekly report.
- Sustain SHERQ awareness through communication such as safety talks, weekly and monthly safety themes.
- Discuss the outcomes of Group Incident Learnings (GIL’s) in the daily departmental meetings.
- Assist in the review of SHERQ onboarding and plant specific induction.
- Conduct plant housekeeping inspections to identify legal non-conformances (including health, safety and environment).
- Schedule inspections in collaboration with the departmental managers.
- Ensure corrective actions are implemented and tracked on the weekly report.
- Follow up to ensure action effectiveness
- Plan, schedule and conduct internal audits in the area of responsibility. Ensure audits are logged onto IsoMetrix.
- Ensure reports are issued and findings captured in IsoMetrix
- Ensure findings and actions are closed-out appropriately
- Monthly/ weekly report to Departmental Management on status of findings and actions
- Participate and support on verification and external audits
- Lead and facilitate the assessment.
- Review the existing baseline risk assessment and ensure that the specific risk assessment for the department is still relevant.
- Ensure correct matrix is used
- Ensure good quality information is captured in IsoMetrix
- Ensure that all events (incidents and non-conformances) are raised and reported on IsoMetrix.
- Ensure that Group Incident Notification’s and Group Incident Learnings are generated for all incidents and submitted to the SHERQ Manager for review and approval.
- Be proficient in leading and facilitating incident investigations
- Ensure quality of incident investigations is of an acceptable standard.
- Ensure incident investigation is captured in IsoMetrix
- Follow up on the actions recommended in the Group Incident Learnings are implemented
- Continually identify opportunities for improvement based on Group Incident Learnings and incidents identified in the department.
Requirements
- Matric (Maths and Science)
- National Diploma in SHERQ related field.
- BTech in SHERQ / Safety (advantageous)
