Overview: Our client is a leading South African fashion retailer with a well-established reputation in the clothing retail industry. The organisation operates in a high-volume, deadline-driven environment where governance, accuracy, and pace matter equally. An opportunity exists within their finance function for a Finance Manager who is comfortable owning outcomes, exercising judgement, and operating with accountability in a listed corporate environment. Their finance function is evolving, and the successful candidate will play a meaningful part in shaping its future structure. The role will adapt alongside this evolution, and they are seeking someone who is adaptable, commercially grounded, and willing to grow into expanded responsibility as the organisation develops. This role is suited to a qualified CA(SA) who has trained at a large audit firm and is intentionally moving into a position that combines technical depth, commercial engagement, and operational ownership. If you are looking to build lasting depth and credibility within a listed group, rather than rotate quickly between roles – this is worth your attention. Responsibilities: The Finance Manager will operate across multiple areas of the finance function, contributing to core financial reporting processes and broader commercial and operational activities. This is not a purely reporting role. It requires ownership, sound judgement, and the ability to engage meaningfully beyond the numbers. Financial reporting and month-end/year-end processes within a listed company environment Review and oversight of financial information to ensure accuracy, integrity, and compliance Supporting external audit processes and engaging directly with auditors Financial controls, governance, and adherence to regulatory and listing requirements Providing financial analysis and insight to management and key stakeholders to support decision-making Participation in ad hoc projects, process improvements, and cross-functional initiatives Management, mentoring, and development of finance team members Requirements: Qualified CA(SA) Articles completed at one of the large audit firms Minimum of 2 years post-articles experience Experience within a listed company environment, or strong exposure to listed clients, would be advantageous Demonstrated people, process, or workflow management experience Solid grounding in financial reporting, controls, and professional standards Clear evidence of career progression and increasing responsibility post-articles Competencies: Comfortable with ambiguity – able to define and build a role, not just fill one Able to shift between detail and big-picture thinking without losing control of either Takes issues through to resolution rather than escalating prematurely Operates with discipline and accountability in a deadline-driven environment Engages confidently with both finance and non-finance stakeholders Pragmatic and commercially grounded, with a strong sense of professional judgement Demonstrated progression and increasing responsibility post-articles
