Job Summary: News24 is looking for a digitally savvy production and graphics journalist to join our production desk team in Johannesburg. The journalist will focus on preparing content and graphics for Sunday publication and will also assist with day-to-day copy from Tuesday to Saturday. This is an evening shift. Minimum Requirements: A relevant tertiary qualification. At least 3-5 years of experience in the journalism industry. Experience in online environment. Proven experience as a reporter, sub-editor or content producer/production journalist and basic design. Skills & Competencies: An excellent eye for visuals. Knowledge of basic photo editing and creating template-based graphics. Excellent writing, rewriting and sub-editing skills with a knack for headlines. A good understanding of local and international news, and a passion for breaking news, with an ability to identify content that resonates with local audiences. Versatile, flexible and adaptable to change. Able to perform under pressure, with short turnaround times. Excellent, meticulous attention to detail. Working knowledge of a CMS, editing software (preferably Canva). Shorthand experience will be advantageous. Duties & Responsibilities: Prepare online-ready content with the appropriate collateral to enrich copy. Build special projects on Shorthand. Create images and simple graphics based on News24s style templates. Edit content to ensure its in line with the style of the publication. Willingness to work irregular hours and independently over weekends and public holidays. Given the employment equity policy of Media24, preference will be given to suitable candidates from the designated groups.
