About the Role
We are seeking a highly experienced Commercial Agricultural/ Horticultural Advisor/Exporter with a proven track record in working with commercial farms and export products, specifically edible nightshades such as tomatoes, eggplant, peppers, chillies, and potatoes.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical guidance to farmers on land preparation, fertilizer, chemical spray programs, planting, irrigation, harvesting, packaging, and transportation.
- Monitor crop progress, ensure growers follow technical/safety standards, and handle grower concerns/complaints/enquiries.
- Organise grower meetings/study groups/share operational info/tech advice/compliance updates with farmers.
- Advise growers on agric practices, knowledge of edible nightshades cultivation, quality control (Q.C.), and providing a service to farmers.
- Report progress on farmer recruitment/production/complaints to Agric Manager.
- Schedule/conduct farm visits, provide technical guidance, document crop progress, and ensure compliance with company Growers Manual/certification standards.
Requirements
- English and Afrikaans speaking BSc Agric (Horticulture/Crop Science) or equivalent qualification.
- 4-5 years proven experience as a Horticultural Extension Officer/Advisor on export products, commercial farms, with experience in growing/processing edible nightshades.
- Excellent planning, interpersonal, problem-solving, feedback, and report writing skills.
- Proficient at agric practices and knowledge of the cultivation of edible nightshades.
Qualifications
- Formal education/certification in Agric (Horticulture/Crop Science) or equivalent qualification.
