Port Elizabeth: Senior Payroll Administrator

About the Role

The Senior Payroll Administrator will be responsible for managing and executing the full monthly payroll function, ensuring all payroll transactions are processed accurately, efficiently, and within required deadlines. This role requires a high level of attention to detail, strong compliance knowledge, and the ability to operate effectively within complex, multi-client payroll environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • General payroll administration for approximately 300 employees across ±25 clients/stores.
  • Month-end statutory reporting.
  • EMP501 reconciliations (annual and interim submissions), including variance analysis, query resolution, and reconciliation support to the team.
  • Administration and updating of store contracts where required.
  • COIDA / Workmen’s Compensation annual submissions and query management.
  • Completion and submission of UI19, UI2.7, and work schedules for the Department of Employment and Labour (including queries and follow-ups).
  • Active leave management and monitoring.
  • Support with Department of Labour audits and related requirements.
  • Responding to and resolving employee payroll queries.
  • Regular communication with franchisees regarding payroll processing and pay runs.
  • Handling and resolution of general payroll and client-related queries.
  • Sound working knowledge of the BCEA and LRA and how these impact payroll processing.
  • Assisting with the management of the payroll team, including:
  • Daily task allocation and oversight.
  • Training and development.
  • Ensuring adherence to procedures, controls, and deadlines.
  • Preparation and administration of final salary ACB payments and Friday payment schedules, in coordination with Senior Payroll staff and submission to the Payroll Manager for distribution to Accounting/Bookkeeping teams.
  • Monthly Medical Aid and Provident fund processing and reconciliation.

Requirements

  • Minimum 4 years’ payroll administration experience.
  • Experience with Sage 300 People (advantageous).
  • Strong Excel skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • High level of integrity and ethics.
  • Strong team player with leadership capability.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Demonstrated leadership and people management ability.
