Pretoria: Business Efficiency Manager

About the Role

The Business Efficiency Manager will play a critical role in driving operational excellence across various business functions. This position requires an individual with expertise in process optimization, project management, and lean methodologies to lead continuous improvement initiatives and drive efficiency gains.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyse end-to-end business processes across the project lifecycle (Bid Design Delivery Close-out) to identify inefficiencies, bottlenecks, rework, and non-value-adding activities.
  • Design and implement lean, standardised, and scalable processes aligned with engineering best practice.
  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs), workflows, and process documentation.
  • Work closely with Project Managers and Discipline Leads to improve project planning and scheduling efficiency, resource allocation and utilisation, design productivity and turnaround times.
  • Analyse project performance metrics (earned value, cost variance, schedule variance) to identify systemic issues impacting project margins and delivery predictability.
  • Develop and maintain capacity planning and workforce utilisation models to optimise billable vs non-billable time and workload balancing across technical teams.
  • Collaborate with HR and line management on skills deployment and workforce planning to identify opportunities for automation, digital tools, and smarter ways of working.
  • Define and track operational KPIs across business units, including utilisation rates, project margin leakage, cycle times, cost efficiency, rework and variation trends.
  • Build dashboards and management reports to support data-driven decision-making and conduct root cause analysis to recommend corrective actions.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives using Lean, Six Sigma, and Industrial Engineering initiatives.
  • Facilitate process optimization workshops and cross-functional problem-solving sessions to drive adoption of new processes, tools, and ways of working.
  • Partner with IT and business stakeholders to improve the use of ERP, project management, and time-sheeting systems.
  • Identify gaps in systems or data that hinder efficiency and performance visibility and support implementation of workflow automation, reporting tools, and digital solutions.
  • Support ensure processes align with internal governance, quality systems, and ISO requirements through clear process controls and documentation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Industrial Engineering, Operations Management, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in operations management, project management, or a related field.
  • Proven expertise in lean methodologies, Six Sigma, and Industrial Engineering initiatives.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify inefficiencies and bottlenecks.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Business Administration, Industrial Engineering, Operations Management, or related field (preferred).
  • Professional certifications in Lean, Six Sigma, or Project Management (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2) (preferred).

Salary & Benefits

Salary: R1 200 000 – R1 500 000 per annum, depending on experience.
