About the Role
A leading animal feed and agricultural production company is seeking a highly skilled and responsible Mechanical Engineer to oversee engineering operations and asset management at one of their premier manufacturing facilities. In this crucial role, you will take full legal accountability for the operation and maintenance of machinery on-site, ensuring optimal plant performance, safety compliance, and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Legal Compliance: Assume the full GMR 2.1 legal appointment, ensuring the safe operation and compliance of all mechanical installations, boilers, and pressure vessels under the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Maintenance Management: Oversee preventive, corrective, and predictive maintenance strategies for all plant machinery, milling equipment, and automated processing lines to minimize downtime.
- Asset Optimization: Analyze equipment performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement engineering solutions to improve plant efficiency, reliability, and throughput.
- Project Engineering: Plan, budget, and execute capital expenditure (Capex) projects, from machinery upgrades to new structural installations, ensuring they are completed on time and within scope.
- Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and manage the on-site technical and maintenance teams, fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree (BEng / BSc / BTech) in Mechanical Engineering.
- Experience: Proven experience holding a GMR 2.1 appointment within an Animal Feed, FMCG, or milling manufacturing environment.
- Technical Skills: Strong background in fault-finding, root cause analysis, automated manufacturing systems, and steam/boiler systems.
- Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead technical teams and manage external contractors effectively.
- Attributes: High levels of professional integrity, excellent problem-solving capabilities, and strong communication skills necessary for managing regulatory compliance.
