Sandton: Senior Credit Manager

Job Description

Partner with Strategic Business Units and the Client Support Growth Division to support early client assessment, bringing diverse expertise to evaluate credit risk and investments in line with the IDC mandate. To provide value-added advisory during early-stage assessments and due diligence by identifying risks and recommending mitigation strategies aligned with risk appetite frameworks. To develop and present suitable solutions that improve the quality and turnaround of credit submissions while maintaining independence. Support post-investment activities, including disbursements, monitoring, early warning identification, annual reviews, restructuring, and participation in relevant committees. Ensure compliance with credit risk policies and contribute to policy development and review across risk management areas. CA / B Com post graduate qualification (or equivalent degree). MBA/MBL would be an added advantage. 8 to 10 years’ relevant experience in a financial institution, 5 years in Credit Risk or similar environment. Credit Risk Financial Analysis Expertise. Advanced knowledge of credit risk assessment frameworks, including risk grading and portfolio management. Strong ability to analyse financial statements (cash flow, balance sheet, income statement), Project finance models and investment viability. Understanding of risk-return trade-offs and structuring of complex deals. Experience with due diligence processes (financial, legal, operational). Proven track record in originating and structuring deals across sectors (e.g., manufacturing, infrastructure, energy, etc.). Ability to identify bankable opportunities aligned to developmental mandates. Experience preparing and reviewing credit/investment papers for approval committees Strong commercial acumen in packaging funding solutions.  In-depth knowledge of Risk appetite frameworks, Credit policies, procedures, and governance standards. Experience in Identifying, mitigating, and monitoring risks, post-investment risk management (early warning signals, restructures). Experience with Disbursement processes, Ongoing monitoring and performance tracking, Annual reviews and restructures. Responsible for Credit and Investment risk assessments within the organisation through: Participate in Basic Assessments and Due Diligence investigations with the Strategic Business Units and Client Support Growth Division and provide guidance and advisory support on risks to be assumed, mitigating factors and assessing viability of applications. Provide appropriate guidance and support during deal development and structuring phases and act as a sounding board throughout the credit on-boarding process. Attend and participate in client and/or deal structuring meetings prior to Deal Development Forum and provide advisory credit and structuring services on potential transactions. Risk identification and mitigation, ensuring compliance with credit policy and other policies within the Organisation and adherence to the Organisation’s approved Risk Appetite levels to the front line and encourage conduct to be within stipulated appetite levels. Provide credit checks, risk ratings and pricing of facilities through application of risk software models and tools. Processing credit risk evaluations and assessments and ensuring these are undertaken in strict compliance with the official Credit and Investment submission templates of the Corporation, that form part of the funding applications disseminated to Credit Committees. Conduct evaluation and assessments that include thorough and rigorous testing of the base case assumptions provided by the applicant and the deal team and provide the necessary independent attestation on the merits of the business case. In collaboration with the Legal Services Department seek the adoption of a consistent approach in the drafting of standardised finance documentation across Group Counterparties as appropriate to ensure adoption of consistent credit terms. Ensuring that the terms and conditions of credit committee approvals are well documented and executed in the legal agreements and draw documents. Work with the deal team and Legal Services Department to ensure deal closure post Committee approval and support applications requiring waivers and/or changes of approved credit and investment terms, as and when necessary. Ability to address and be solution oriented on issues within the disciplines of the credit management cycle, including ensuring that annual reviews are undertaken and risk grades updated. Participate in the disbursement processes of approved IDC funding and provide independent credit sign-off. Attending and participating in Credit Investment Committees and Exco meetings to present the credit risk view. Proactive management of credit and investment risk by conducting regular credit reviews on investments, identifying early warning signals and implementing interventions to minimize risk and financial losses; valuation of equity investments and review of impairment, restructuring of investments that are in financial distress. Timeous and regular review of business partners including client visits in line with Risk Category, analysis of management accounts and annual financial statements and overall Business Partner account performance and allocated portfolio performance amongst others. Participation in project steering committee meetings and board meetings of IDC investee companies. Provide mentoring and coaching, including peer review and knowledge sharing.
