About the Role
Status Staffing is seeking an experienced and skilled Head of Engineering (Electric) to lead our electrical engineering team in Somerset West. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in solar/renewable energy projects, excellent leadership skills, and a proven track record of managing engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the electrical engineering team, ensuring high performance and continuous development
- Oversee the design and engineering of solar PV systems (commercial and/or utility-scale)
- Ensure all projects comply with relevant electrical standards, regulations, and safety requirements
- Provide technical leadership across project lifecycle – from feasibility to commissioning
- Collaborate with project management, procurement, and operations teams to ensure successful project delivery
- Review and approve engineering designs, drawings, and technical documentation
- Drive innovation, efficiency, and cost optimisation within engineering processes
- Manage engineering budgets, timelines, and resource allocation
- Engage with clients, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies where required
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (BEng / BSc or equivalent)
- Professional registration (ECSA) highly advantageous
- 15 – 20 years’ experience in electrical engineering, with significant exposure to solar/renewable energy projects
- Proven leadership experience managing engineering teams
- Strong knowledge of solar PV design, grid integration, and electrical systems
- Experience with relevant software (e.g. PVsyst, AutoCAD, Helioscope or similar)
- In-depth understanding of South African electrical standards and regulations
