We are seeking a suitably qualified and experienced Fitter. We invite applications from skilled individuals who meet the minimum requirements below.

Minimum Requirements

• Matric / NTC 3.

• Trade-tested Fitter (Red Seal) Fitter & Turner qualification advantageous.

• Minimum 5 years experience in a manufacturing environment (sawmill experience advantageous).

• Proven ability in servicing and installation of:

  • Hydraulic and pneumatic equipment.

  • Conveyors.

  • Gearboxes.

  • Belt and chain drives.

• Welding experience essential.

• Machine setup experience required.

• Medically fit individual.

• Code EB drivers license with own transport.

• Willingness to work irregular hours, standby duties, overtime (including weekends).

• Proficiency in English (speak, read, write).

• Ability to communicate in isiXhosa advantageous.

• Experience with sawmill-related equipment will be highly advantageous:

  • Frame saws, bandsaws, drum chippers, debarkers, planers, finger jointers, destackers, boilers, kilns.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform cost-effective mechanical maintenance and repairs on all plant and ancillary equipment.

• Install new plant and machinery to required standards.

• Accurately record all work performed on timesheets and job cards.

• Maintain up-to-date technical knowledge of all plant and equipment on site.

• Ensure housekeeping and safety compliance in all work areas.

• Work overtime and perform standby duties as operationally required.

• Assist with training and development of apprentices and semi-skilled staff.

• Requisition necessary spares and materials.

• Contribute to the development and implementation of planned maintenance programs.

• Record faults, update planned work lists, and execute repair plans.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Perform cost-effective mechanical maintenance and repairs on all plant and ancillary equipment in the department.

Cost-effective installation of new plant and machinery.

Recording of all work performed on plant and ancillary equipment on a time sheet and worksheet.

Maintaining an up-to-date knowledge of all mechanical plant and ancillary equipment on site.

Maintain a high level of housekeeping and total compliance with safety standards within his work area.

Performing of overtime work and standby duties as and when required.

Assisting with on-the-job training of apprentices and semi-skilled artisans working in the engineering division.

Requisitioning of spares and materials.

Assist in the formulation and implementation of a planned maintenance program.

Be able to record faults, add to planned work list and plan execution of work.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS

Matric / NTC 3.

Completed trade test as Fitter (and Turner, would be advantageous) with Red Seal Experience in the servicing and installation of:

Hydraulic and pneumatic equipment;

Conveyors;

Gear boxes; and

Belt and chain drives.

Experienced in Sawmill related equipment, would be advantageous:

Frame saws, bandsaws and associated equipment;

Drum chippers;

Debarkers;

Planers

Finger jointer machine

Destacker

Boilers

Kilns

Proven experience as a welder.

A minimum of 5 years experience in a manufacturing environment. Sawmilling experience would be an advantage.

Experience in machine setup.

Medically fit with sober habits.

Code EB license with own transport.

Willing to work irregular hours and perform standby duties.

Regularly working overtime, especially on weekends.

Must be able to communicate in English (speak, read & write).

Ability to communicate in Xhosa will be an added advantage
