About the Role

We are seeking a highly organized and passionate individual to join our music and podcasting editorial team as an Assistant Editor. The role involves supporting all editorial tasks, content tracking, and creator relations to contribute to the expanding music and podcasting editorial team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Utilize 1-3 years of experience in music, journalism, content, marketing or a related field to support all editorial tasks.
  • Assist the Senior Editor with research, writing, briefing, content planning and general administrative tasks.
  • Draft captions, scripts and content briefs for review and approval.
  • Maintain the content calendar and track production deadlines across the music vertical.
  • Research emerging musicians, creators and cultural figures across the continent for features.
  • Monitor African music platforms, social media, press and industry channels.
  • Liaise with commissioned creators, communicating feedback and managing contributor relationships across Africa.
  • Attend music gigs, showcases and cultural events as an ambassador and representative of the brand.

Requirements

  • 1-3 years of experience in music, journalism, content, marketing or a related field.
  • Genuine passion for African music and culture.
  • Good writer, communicator and networker with basic working knowledge of digital marketing and social media.
  • Highly organized, meticulous and comfortable utilizing project management systems.
  • Comfortable working in a small, founder-led, fast-moving team environment.

Qualifications

University degree is preferable, with a relevant field being an advantage. Some experience with or exposure to digital content publishing is advantageous.
