Durban: Laboratory Technician

About the Role

A leading research organisation is seeking a Laboratory Technician to join their clinical research site based in Vulindlela (Howick Area). The successful candidate will support laboratory operations within a dynamic clinical research environment, ensuring accurate sample handling, adherence to quality standards, and effective laboratory processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Receive, sort, store, and retrieve laboratory samples.
  • Perform data capturing and generate reports.
  • Maintain laboratory records, processes, and equipment documentation.
  • Monitor equipment performance and coordinate servicing/calibration when required.
  • Assist with laboratory stock and inventory control.
  • Ensure adherence to infection control and biohazard waste disposal procedures.
  • Assist with Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) development, writing, and implementation.

Requirements

  • Laboratory/Medical Technician certification in Microbiology or Clinical Pathology.
  • Current registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA).
  • Minimum 2 years’ laboratory experience within a Microbiology or Clinical Pathology laboratory.
  • Knowledge of Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
  • Knowledge of SANAS, GCP, GCLP standards, and IATA regulations.
  • Knowledge of point-of-care testing and working within strict turnaround times.
