Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

General Merchandising Duties:

  • Ensure shelves are consistently stocked, neat and visually appealing
  • Implement merchandising standards in line with company policies
  • Monitor stock levels and report shortages to management
  • Rotate stock according to FIFO (First In, First Out) principles
  • Ensure correct pricing and labelling of all products
  • Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the store at all times
  • Assist customers with product queries and provide excellent service.

Department-Specific Duties:

Fruit & Vegetables Department:

  • Inspect quality and freshness of produce daily
  • Remove damaged or expired items promptly
  • Ensure proper handling and storage to maintain freshness
  • Create attractive product displays to increase sales

Perishables Department:

  • Monitor expiry dates and ensure strict stock rotation
  • Maintain cold chain standards and proper storage conditions
  • Ensure hygiene and food safety regulations are adhered to
  • Minimise waste through proper stock control

Receiving Department:

  • Receive, check, and verify incoming stock against delivery notes
  • Report discrepancies, damages, or shortages
  • Ensure accurate capturing and storage of stock
  • Maintain organised and safe receiving areas

Floor Merchandising:

  • Ensure product displays are aligned with promotional activities
  • Replenish stock on the sales floor as needed
  • Maintain store layout and visual merchandising standards
  • Support overall store operations and teamwork.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Grade 12 / Matric Certificate (essential)
  • Minimum of 2 years’ proven experience as a Merchandiser in a retail environment
  • Strong understanding of merchandising principles and stock rotation
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Must be reliable, detail-oriented and physically fit.
