About the Role

PKF Durban is seeking an experienced Senior Legal Tax Manager to provide expert legal and technical support in managing complex tax disputes, representing clients in negotiations and litigation, and ensuring compliance with tax legislation. The ideal candidate will work closely with senior management, clients, and external stakeholders to resolve disputes efficiently and strategically.

Key Responsibilities

  • Handle tax dispute cases with SARS and other regulatory authorities.
  • Draft legal opinions, objections, and appeals in line with tax legislation.
  • Represent clients in tax dispute hearings, mediations, and court proceedings.
  • Provide technical guidance on tax legislation, case law, and compliance requirements.
  • Advise clients and internal teams on risk management strategies related to tax disputes.
  • Interpret complex tax laws and regulations to support decision-making.
  • Build strong relationships with clients, offering clear and practical advice.
  • Prepare and present case strategies to clients and senior leadership.
  • Maintain confidentiality and uphold professional ethics in all client dealings.
  • Work closely with audit, accounting, and tax teams to identify potential dispute risks.
  • Report progress on disputes to senior management and provide recommendations.
  • Contribute to internal knowledge-sharing and training on tax dispute resolution.

Requirements

  • LLB or equivalent legal qualification (admission as Attorney/Advocate preferred).
  • Postgraduate qualification in Tax Law or related field advantageous.
  • Minimum 25 years experience in tax disputes, litigation, or advisory.
  • Proven track record of handling complex tax disputes with SARS or similar authorities.
