About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and organized Import Freight Controller to join our team at BLACK TIE RECRUIT in Durban, Point Waterfront area. As a key member of our clearing and forwarding company, you will be responsible for managing the full end-to-end process of logistics supply chain for our clients. If you have experience in both air and sea freight and are proficient in interpreting quotations, we want to hear from you.
Key Responsibilities
- Interpret a quotation, including terms such as ex Works, FOB, CIF, C&F
- Identify the carrier (shipping line/airline) and agent
- Correctly identify what documentation is required for clearance of the consignment
- Manage the full end-to-end process of logistics supply chain
- Know the company’s value chain (quotes to final delivery)
- Contact the shipper or agent, and request relevant shipping documentation
- Register the shipment on ShipShape
- Capture necessary information into ShipShape
- Make a cargo booking with the carrier
- Complete a bill of lading or air way bill
- Complete a certificate of origin or other certificates/permits as required
- Arrange with a transporter/trucking company for pick-up and delivery of goods to depot
- Follow up with relevant parties to track the consignment
- Accurately complete the Cover Sheet for invoicing purposes
- Calculate and record all charges relating to the shipment
- Engage with relevant parties, including interacting with Customs Department to create and submit BoE
- Liaise with Logistics Team to arrange delivery
- Advise the consignee of all charges
- Liaise with Finance department to create a proforma/draft invoice for the client
- Submit the invoice to the client, and obtain payment prior to submission of customs documentation and delivery
- Ensure delivery of cargo
- Ensure that all necessary import documentation has been completed
- Follow up with client to confirm delivery was made
- Get feedback from client regarding service
- Handle unusual circumstances
- Complete documentation required for provisional or penalty payment
Requirements
- Matric
- Shipping qualification from a recognized training provider (preferably)
- Minimum of 2 years shipping experience
