About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Commercial Litigation Secretary / Legal Secretary to join our team in Johannesburg. As a key member of our administrative support staff, you will be responsible for providing exceptional administrative support to our litigation professionals, ensuring seamless day-to-day operations and facilitating effective communication with clients, counsel, and other stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Dictaphone and copy typing of legal documents across a wide range of litigation matters
- Drafting, formatting, and collating notices, pleadings, and other legal documentation
- Implementing amendments to documents and verifying accuracy
- Preparing and maintaining resource, counsel, and client files
- Managing practitioners diaries, call screening, and message tracking
- General office and personal administration for allocated legal professionals
- Preparing pre-bills and billing memoranda; coordinating with accounts on debtor management
- Assisting with FICA administration and ensuring compliance requirements are completed
- Liaising professionally with clients, counsel, presiding officers, experts, and other service providers as instructed
- Coordinating extensive travel arrangements, including bookings for transport, accommodation, and related logistics
Requirements
- At least 5 years of experience as a Legal Secretary within a litigation environment
- Strong proficiency in MS Word (especially Word 2010) and Excel
- Working knowledge of legal accounting and document-management systems (e.g., Ghost Practice / AJS / Legal Suite / Lexpro / Aderant Expert / CMS, FileSite)
- Secretarial, Legal Secretarial or Paralegal qualification is advantageous
- Matric is essential

- Formal education/certifications (Bachelor’s, LLB, Matric, etc.) are not required for this position.
