Johannesburg: Programme Manager (Digital Transformation) – Contract posted by PBT Group

Job Description

PBT Group is seeking an experienced and highly accomplished Programme Manager to lead the delivery of a large-scale, enterprise-wide strategic transformation initiative.

This role requires a seasoned programme leader with a proven track record of successfully delivering complex digital transformation programmes across multiple business functions, technology teams, and stakeholder groups. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving programme governance, executive stakeholder engagement, delivery oversight, dependency management, risk mitigation, and benefits realisation across a multi-workstream environment.

The ideal candidate will bring strong leadership capability, exceptional stakeholder management skills, and the ability to operate effectively within complex and evolving organisational environments.

Key Responsibilities

Programme Leadership & Delivery

  • Lead the end-to-end delivery of a strategic enterprise transformation programme.
  • Establish and drive programme governance structures, reporting frameworks, and delivery disciplines.
  • Manage programme budgets, timelines, resource planning, and benefits realisation.
  • Oversee multiple interdependent workstreams, delivery teams, vendors, and business stakeholders.
  • Ensure programme outcomes align with strategic business objectives and organisational priorities.
  • Drive programme execution while proactively identifying and mitigating delivery risks.

Governance, Risk & Control

  • Establish and manage programme-level governance forums and steering committees.
  • Own programme RAID management (Risks, Assumptions, Issues and Dependencies).
  • Monitor critical path activities and ensure effective dependency management across all workstreams.
  • Drive programme assurance activities and ensure alignment with organisational governance standards.
  • Produce high-quality executive reporting, programme dashboards, and status communications.

Executive Stakeholder Management

  • Engage directly with senior executives and leadership teams across business and technology functions.
  • Facilitate decision-making and alignment across diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Translate complex delivery and technical challenges into clear, concise executive-level communication.
  • Prepare and present steering committee packs, executive briefings, and programme updates.
  • Build trusted relationships with senior stakeholders and influence outcomes without direct authority.

Planning & Delivery Coordination

  • Develop and maintain integrated programme plans and delivery roadmaps spanning multiple workstreams and delivery horizons.
  • Coordinate activities across business units, technology teams, external partners, and vendors.
  • Drive prioritisation and planning activities to ensure successful programme execution.
  • Conduct scenario planning and impact assessments to support strategic decision-making.

Transformation & Change Leadership

  • Operate effectively within complex and ambiguous environments.
  • Establish structure, governance, and delivery frameworks where they do not already exist.
  • Drive collaboration across organisational silos and build alignment between teams.
  • Facilitate workshops, planning sessions, and programme mobilisation activities.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, transparency, and delivery excellence.

Required Experience

Essential

  • 812+ years of Programme Management experience.
  • Minimum 5 years operating at senior programme level.
  • Proven experience delivering large-scale enterprise digital transformation programmes.
  • Demonstrated success managing multiple concurrent workstreams across business and technology functions.
  • Strong experience managing programme budgets, risks, dependencies, and benefits realisation.
  • Experience operating within complex corporate or enterprise environments.
  • Proven track record of delivering strategic business and technology initiatives.

Executive Engagement

  • Extensive experience engaging with C-suite and senior executive stakeholders.
  • Experience preparing and presenting executive reporting, steering committee updates, and board-level communications.
  • Ability to influence, challenge, and align senior stakeholders in complex decision-making environments.
  • Strong facilitation and stakeholder management skills.

Planning & Governance

  • Advanced programme planning and delivery management capability.
  • Experience managing large-scale integrated delivery roadmaps.
  • Strong RAID management expertise.
  • Experience with critical path analysis and scenario planning.
  • Strong governance and programme control experience.

Transformation & Organisational Alignment

  • Demonstrated ability to create structure within ambiguous environments.
  • Experience driving alignment across multiple business units and stakeholder groups.
  • Proven capability in establishing programme governance, delivery frameworks, and ways of working.
  • Strong organisational change and transformation delivery experience.

Preferred Qualifications & Certifications

One or more of the following:

  • MSP (Managing Successful Programmes)
  • PgMP (Programme Management Professional)
  • SAFe Programme Consultant (SPC)
  • Agile Programme Management Certification
  • Relevant Degree in Business, Information Technology, Engineering, Commerce, or related field

Note: Programme-level certification is strongly preferred over project-only certifications.
