Johannesburg: Senior Data Modelling – Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW)

Job Description

Key Responsibilities Data Modelling & Architecture Design and maintain conceptual, logical, and physical data models for enterprise data warehouse environments. Develop dimensional models including star and snowflake schemas for analytics and reporting. Translate business requirements into scalable data structures and warehouse solutions. Define and maintain enterprise data standards, modelling principles, and best practices. Ensure data models support performance, scalability, and future business growth. Enterprise Data Warehouse Development Support the design and implementation of enterprise data warehouse solutions. Collaborate with data engineering teams to develop ETL/ELT processes. Optimize warehouse structures for reporting, analytics, and self-service BI. Identify opportunities to improve data integration and warehouse performance. Data Governance & Quality Establish and enforce data modelling standards and governance frameworks. Maintain metadata, business glossaries, and data lineage documentation. Ensure data quality, consistency, and integrity across enterprise platforms. Support regulatory compliance and data management initiatives. Stakeholder Engagement Partner with business units to understand data requirements and analytical needs. Facilitate workshops and requirements-gathering sessions. Provide guidance to technical teams regarding data architecture and modelling decisions. Present recommendations and solutions to senior management and stakeholders. Leadership & Mentorship Mentor junior data modellers, analysts, and developers. Conduct design reviews and ensure adherence to architectural standards. Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the data management function. Minimum Requirements Education Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field. Relevant certifications in data management, data architecture, or cloud platforms will be advantageous. Experience 8 years of experience in data warehousing and data modelling. 5 years of experience designing enterprise-scale data models. Proven experience working in large, complex enterprise environments. Strong experience with dimensional modelling methodologies. Experience supporting enterprise reporting and analytics platforms. Technical Skills Essential Advanced data modelling expertise (Conceptual, Logical, Physical). Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) design and implementation. Dimensional Modelling (Kimball methodology). Data Vault modelling experience. SQL and advanced database design. ETL/ELT frameworks and data integration. Metadata management and data governance. Data quality management principles. Database Technologies Experience with one or more: SQL Server Oracle PostgreSQL Teradata Snowflake Amazon Redshift Google BigQuery Azure Synapse Analytics Cloud Platforms Experience with one or more: Microsoft Azure Amazon Web Services (AWS) Google Cloud Platform (GCP) Data & Analytics Tools Experience with: Power BI Tableau Qlik Sense Informatica Talend dbt Alteryx Key Competencies Strategic Thinking Data Architecture Design Problem Solving Stakeholder Management Business Analysis Leadership & Mentoring Communication & Presentation Skills Attention to Detail Analytical Thinking Project Delivery Preferred Qualifications Experience implementing Data Vault 2.0 methodologies. Experience with Master Data Management (MDM). Knowledge of data governance frameworks. Exposure to Agile delivery methodologies.
