About the Role
Fidelity Services Group is seeking an experienced and skilled Debt Counsellor to join our team in Midrand. As a Debt Counsellor with Fidelity Services Group, you will play a crucial role in helping consumers manage their debt and achieve financial stability.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate consumer’s income and expenses to determine if they are over-indebted
- Liaise with creditors to reduce interest rates and extend repayment periods to make installments affordable
- Create a formal repayment plan, often formalized by a court order, protecting the consumer from creditor legal action
- Combine multiple debt repayments into a single monthly payment
- Advise clients, handle legal paperwork, and protect assets like homes or cars from repossession
- Issue a clearance certificate once all debt (excluding home loans) is repaid to clear the consumer’s credit record
Requirements
- Relevant experience in debt counselling or a related field
- Strong analytical and negotiation skills
- Ability to work with clients and creditors effectively
- Knowledge of debt restructuring and consumer protection laws
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Qualifications
- Formal education in law, finance, or a related field (e.g. LLB, BCom, etc.)
- Professional certification as a Debt Counsellor (e.g. NACDCA)
- Relevant work experience in debt counselling or a related field
