Role Overview
An established retail organisation is seeking a proactive and commercially driven Senior Product Developer to join its Product Development team. The successful candidate will be responsible for sourcing, developing, and managing product ranges that resonate with customers, drive sales growth, and maintain strong profit margins.
This role requires a strong combination of commercial acumen, analytical capability, supplier management, and cross-functional collaboration to ensure products are available at the right price, quantity, and time.
Key Responsibilities
Product Development & New Product Introduction
- Identify emerging market trends and evolving customer needs
- Source and develop new products for launch within relevant product categories
- Coordinate with marketing and internal teams to deliver successful product launches
- Monitor product performance and refine strategies based on sales data and customer insights
Supplier & Vendor Management
- Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and vendors
- Evaluate supplier performance and address issues proactively
- Negotiate agreements and commercial terms that deliver long-term value
Sales Growth & Category Development
- Develop buying and product strategies to support revenue growth
- Analyse sales performance, customer trends, and product data to identify opportunities
- Collaborate with marketing teams on promotional campaigns and product positioning
Margin & Cost Management
- Negotiate favourable supplier pricing, delivery schedules, and payment terms
- Monitor product cost structures and adjust sourcing strategies where necessary
- Identify cost-saving opportunities while maintaining product quality and value
Inventory & Demand Planning
- Optimise inventory levels to balance product availability with holding costs
- Monitor stock turnover and reorder cycles using inventory management systems
- Work closely with supply chain teams to improve lead times and replenishment processes
- Forecast demand and track stock levels to avoid supply gaps
- Support best practices in inventory control and stock accuracy
Requirements
- Minimum 6+ years experience in product development, buying, or procurement within a retail environment
- Strong analytical ability with experience interpreting sales data and demand forecasting
- Proven experience in supplier negotiations and vendor relationship management
- Experience using inventory management systems and stock control processes
- Strong collaboration skills with the ability to work across multiple teams
- Customer-focused with awareness of market trends and product opportunities
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and project management skills
- Bachelors degree in Consumer Science, Business, Supply Chain, Marketing, or a related field (preferred)
