Sandton: AV Draughtsman /Design Engineer

The Design Engineer will be responsible for producing high-quality technical drawings and ensuring that all designs meet relevant industry standards, project requirements, and client specifications. The role requires strong technical draughting ability, attention to detail, and the ability to support project, engineering, sales, and technical teams throughout the project lifecycle The successful candidate will be responsible for: Generating and reviewing AutoCAD drawings in line with defined technical standards and specifications. Providing design support to internal teams to ensure successful project design, integration, training, and close-out. Developing detailed infrastructure drawings for architects, general contractors, and electrical contractors where required. Preparing detailed engineering drawings for rack layouts, system wiring, custom plates, cabling assemblies, and related technical requirements. Developing cable run lists and pull lists as required. Reviewing and verifying Bills of Materials after the sale of a solution to ensure alignment with the client purchase order, signed agreement, or project scope. Communicating clearly and professionally with internal teams, clients, vendors, and project stakeholders. Working closely with technical and project teams to develop site-specific solutions. Participating in technical discussions and vendor meetings to research new technologies and remain informed about emerging industry solutions. Providing support to field engineers, programmers, and technicians where required. Capturing field mark-ups and converting them into accurate as-built drawings. Providing field engineering support, attending meetings, assisting with site supervision, commissioning, final testing, and training on site where required. Supporting the sales department with technical equipment lists, overview documentation, and client solution development. Core Competencies and Requirements Strong communication skills, with the ability to provide clear, prompt, honest, and professional feedback. Good organisational and problem-solving skills, especially in relation to time management and technical issue resolution. Multidisciplinary certificate in draughting. 13 years draughting experience, preferably in signage, AV systems, control rooms, or a related technical environment. Proficiency in AutoCAD, including 2D and 3D drawings. Desired Skills and Experience 5 years experience in the AV / VC field would be advantageous. 8 years relevant experience in a technical field would be advantageous. CTS or equivalent AV certification, such as AVAQ, CTQ, or similar, would be beneficial. Previous IT experience would be advantageous. Detailed understanding of AV system functionality, installation processes, and installation techniques. Certification or experience in major AV systems, including DSP, control systems, AVoIP, or similar technologies. Strong understanding of digital signage and AV layouts. Excellent attention to detail and communication skills. Experience in signage manufacturing, AV integration, or control room setups would be preferred.
