South Africa: Junior Analytics Engineer (SQL, Python) – Cape Town – up to R660k per annum posted by E-Merge

Job Description

Our client is looking for a Junior Analytics Engineer to design, develop, and enhance scalable data models and analytics pipelines. In this role, you will contribute to delivering high-quality business intelligence by building strong data foundations that support reporting, analytics, and informed decision-making across the organisation.

You will collaborate closely with data analysts, engineers, and business stakeholders to deliver reliable, well-structured, and well-documented data solutions.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement relational, dimensional, and domain-specific semantic data models, applying strong data normalization principles.
  • Develop, maintain, and optimize analytics pipelines using dbt, SQLMesh, or similar modern transformation tools.
  • Implement and monitor data quality frameworks using tools such as dbt tests and SodaCL to ensure trusted datasets.
  • Build and maintain dashboards and reports using Power BI and Excel.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and translate them into scalable data solutions.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of data models, pipelines, and data processes.
  • Use Git and Azure DevOps or GitHub for version control, code reviews, and CI/CD workflows.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in analytics engineering, data engineering, or data analytics roles.
  • Strong proficiency in SQL, Python, and data modelling principles.
  • Hands-on experience with dbt, SQLMesh, or similar transformation frameworks.
  • Familiarity with Git and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Understanding of open table formats and modern lakehouse architectures.
  • Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Experience working with cloud data platforms such as Azure Synapse, AWS Redshift, or Google BigQuery.
