About the Role
We are seeking a skilled and driven Sous Chef to support the Head Chef and Executive Operations Chef in delivering consistency, innovation, and operational excellence across a dynamic group of restaurants. The ideal candidate will combine strong technical ability with leadership skills, reliability, and a passion for culinary excellence at one of the flagship restaurants in Parkhurst or Bryanston, Johannesburg.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Head Chef in directing daily kitchen operations
- Lead and mentor junior chefs and kitchen staff, ensuring discipline and consistency
- Support menu development, seasonal changes, and brand-aligned culinary identity
- Oversee food preparation, presentation, and portion control to the highest standards
- Monitor food costing, procurement, and supplier relationships
- Uphold hygiene, safety, and operational standards across the kitchen
- Collaborate with management to align culinary operations with business goals
Requirements
- Culinary diploma or equivalent professional certification
- 5 – 7+ years experience in fine dining or premium casual restaurants
- Proven track record in managing kitchen sections and supporting overall operations
- Strong technical knowledge across hot, cold, grill, or pastry sections
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams in high-volume service environments
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
