Cape Town City Centre: Industrial Engineering Intern

Job Description

To assist with documenting operational processes and developing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) across various departments within our manufacturing facility. This internship offers practical exposure to industrial engineering principles, process improvement, and operational excellence in a fast-paced production environment. Key Responsibilities Observe and analyse operational processes across manufacturing, warehousing, quality, and support departments. Conduct interviews and information-gathering sessions with employees and supervisors. Map existing processes using flowcharts and process-mapping tools. Develop, review, and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Ensure SOPs are clear, accurate, user-friendly, and aligned with operational requirements. Capture process risks, controls, and quality requirements within documentation. Assist in identifying process inefficiencies and opportunities for improvement. Maintain a central repository of process documentation. Work closely with department managers to validate documented procedures. Support continuous improvement initiatives where required. Minimum Requirements Currently studying towards or recently completed a degree in: Industrial Engineering Strong written communication and documentation skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel, and Visio (or similar process-mapping software). Strong attention to detail and ability to organise information effectively. Ability to work independently and engage professionally with employees at all levels. Preferred Competencies Understanding of process mapping and workflow analysis. Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing or Continuous Improvement principles. Analytical and problem-solving skills. Good interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
