Durban: Shift Manager

About the Role

Our client, a leader in the flexible packaging industry, is seeking an experienced Shift Manager to join their team based in Durban. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the activities and performance of the Supervisors, Operators, and Operator assistants on shift, while ensuring customer demands are met and resources are utilized efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the activities and performance of Supervisors, Operators, and Operator assistants on shift.
  • Satisfy and conform to customer demands (quality, quantity, on time) and requirements.
  • Ensure Health and Safety Standards are adhering to at all times.
  • Maintain housekeeping of the highest standard.
  • Clean machines and equipment as per agreed schedules.
  • Conduct daily inspections and report faults for repair and maintenance.
  • Update HERO Records with updated Hero outstanding issues, Recognition and Improvement Ideas.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives in the department.
  • Ensure compliance with BRC Certification of Conformity system.
  • Ensure compliance with ISO 9001:2008 quality management systems.
  • Ensure compliance with OHSAS 18001:2007 occupational health & safety management system.
  • Ensure compliance with ISO 14001:2004 environmental management systems.
  • Investigate and resolve customer complaints.
  • Identify cost saving possibilities.

Requirements

  • Matric (Grade 12)
  • Qualified Trade Tested N5 – 6 Production / Operations management qualification
  • 3–5 years’ experience as Flexo/Gravure Operator in a production environment
  • Min 1-2 years’ experience as a supervisor in a production environment
  • Experience in Facilitating Africomms
  • Experience in leading continuous improvement projects

  • Formal education/certifications (if applicable)
