About the Role
The Project Engineer / GCC Engineer role at Marvel Placement Consultant involves leading and managing engineering projects across the mining operation, ensuring legal compliance with the Mine Health and Safety Act and GCC responsibilities. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership and guidance to engineering teams and contractors, drive continuous improvement initiatives, and oversee contractor performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage engineering projects across the mining operation.
- Ensure legal compliance in accordance with the Mine Health and Safety Act and GCC responsibilities.
- Oversee engineering maintenance strategies to ensure optimal equipment reliability and plant performance.
- Manage project planning, execution, budgeting, and reporting.
- Ensure all engineering projects are completed safely, within budget, and according to project timelines.
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to engineering teams and contractors.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to optimise operational efficiency and reduce downtime.
- Manage risk assessments, engineering audits, and safety investigations.
- Oversee contractor performance and ensure compliance with site safety standards.
- Ensure effective resource planning and allocation for engineering projects.
- Develop and implement preventative maintenance strategies.
- Collaborate with production, engineering, and senior management teams to achieve operational targets.
- Monitor project costs and identify opportunities for cost savings and efficiency improvements.
- Prepare technical reports, project updates, and engineering documentation for senior management.
- Ensure adherence to company standards, policies, and legal engineering requirements.
- Mentor and develop engineering personnel within the operation.
Requirements
- Grade 12 / Matric Certificate.
- Bachelor’s Degree or National Diploma in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
- GCC Mines and Works Certificate (Non-Negotiable).
- Minimum 10 years’ engineering experience within the mining industry.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a senior engineering or project management role.
- Proven experience managing mining projects from concept to completion.
- Strong knowledge of Mine Health and Safety Act regulations and compliance requirements.
- Experience within underground mining operations.
- Strong budgeting, cost control, and contractor management experience.
- Project Management qualification advantageous.
- Experience with shutdowns, plant optimisation, and infrastructure projects.
- Strong understanding of mining equipment, maintenance strategies, and engineering best practices.
- Computer literacy in MS Office and mining maintenance systems.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple high-level projects simultaneously.
