Johannesburg: Operations Manager – City Deep, Gauteng

About the Role A leading company within the food production and cold-chain logistics industry is seeking an experienced and disciplined Operations Manager to oversee and optimize daily operations across multiple departments, including warehousing, transport, stock management, quality control, sanitation, and site operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing approximately 260 employees while ensuring operational efficiency, legal compliance, stock integrity, cold-chain performance, quality standards, security oversight, and continuous improvement across the site. Key Responsibilities Transport Operations Manage and oversee transport operations to ensure successful and timely product deliveries. Ensure fleet, drivers, and transport activities comply with legal and company requirements. Optimize fleet utilization, route planning, and maintenance schedules. Monitor and control transport-related costs. Site Operations Ensure the site remains clean, secure, and compliant with operational standards. Manage security service providers and site access control. Drive workflow improvements and reduce turnaround times. Oversee sanitation teams and hygiene compliance. Ensure quality control standards and procedures are consistently maintained. Warehouse Operations Manage temperature-controlled warehouse operations in line with food safety and quality standards. Monitor stock movement and ageing to minimize losses and maintain product quality. Ensure adequate cooling capacity is maintained at all times. Oversee stock accuracy and equipment functionality, including weighing systems. Departmental Management Manage inventory levels and stock control processes. Improve operational efficiencies and workflow management. Ensure freezer and cold-storage facilities operate effectively. Maintain high standards of housekeeping and compliance across all operational areas. Minimum Requirements Minimum 10 years’ experience in Cold Chain Logistics and Site Management. Proven track record in operations management within a fast-paced environment. Strong leadership experience managing large teams. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Computer literate. Ability to work independently and under pressure. Honest, disciplined, reliable, and professional. Resilient and adaptable in a demanding operational environment.
