Johannesburg: Senior Accountant (IFRS16)

Job Description

Our client is a leading courier and logistics business based in Johannesburg East, operating in an environment where speed, accuracy and accountability are everything. They’re looking for a technically strong Senior Accountant to become the backbone of the finance function, someone who can confidently navigate IFRS, audits, tax compliance, reconciliations and reporting while supporting branches across the business. Key Responsibilities: Own month-end accounting, journals, accruals, provisions and reconciliations Manage IFRS 16 accounting, lease reporting and related compliance Review balance sheet reconciliations and ensure financial integrity Analyse financial results and provide meaningful reporting insights Maintain fixed asset registers, disposals, transfers and asset controls Support annual financial statements, tax submissions and SARS queries Manage relationships with internal and external auditors Provide technical accounting support to branches and operational teams Drive process improvements, strengthen controls, and enhance reporting quality Ensure compliance with IFRS, tax legislation, POPIA and company policies Job Experience and Skills Required: BCom Degree in Accounting or Finance SAIPA or SAICA Articles advantageous 5 years’ experience in a full-function accounting role Experience managing internal and external audit processes Strong IFRS 16 knowledge and application Experience handling VAT, Income Tax submissions and SARS engagements Industry experience within courier, logistics, transport, supply chain, wholesale or distribution environments Advanced Microsoft Excel Sage ERP experience (or equivalent accounting systems) Strong technical accounting knowledge and financial reporting capability Excellent analytical, organisational and problem-solving skills Ability to perform under pressure and consistently meet deadlines If you’re the person who enjoys finding the one number that’s out of place, questioning the explanation everyone else accepted and leaving the finance function stronger than you found it, this role has your fingerprints all over it!
