About the Role
The Head Guide is a critical role that requires exceptional leadership, administrative, and guiding skills to maintain the overall operation and administration of the Guides and Safari department. As part of the Family Collection, you will be responsible for driving the guest experience, promoting conservation initiatives, and fostering strong relationships with various teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and train all Field Guide functions according to FGASA standards and Guiding culture
- Conduct guest introductory and safety orientations, guided game drives, and interpretive bush walks
- Ensure efficient allocation of game drives, back-up drives, and stand-by duties
- Maintain valid departmental licenses for company firearms and ensure safe weapon handling
- Chair and record departmental meetings and attend other meetings as required
- Assist in managing lodge social media platforms to increase knowledge of wildlife and operating area
- Coordinate effective incident management in emergency or evacuation situations
- Mentor, train, develop, and guide the team towards achieving required qualifications
- Compile feedback and progress reports on Field Guide College Placement Guides
- Implement training and mentorship plans using internal and external trainers
- Facilitate inter-property training for employees within the Family Collection
Requirements
- Minimum FGASA Level 2 and Trails Guide certification (Essential)
- ARH and Rifle Proficiency
- First Aid Level 2
- Drivers License and Pr-DP
- Previous experience as Assistant Head Guide or Head Guide
- Sound knowledge of planning, budgeting, and departmental administration
- Familiarity with applicable company procedures according to FGASA standards
