About the Role
Hire Resolve’s Client is seeking an experienced Safety Officer to join their mining company based in North-West. The successful candidate will be responsible for promoting a safe working environment through inspections, risk management, compliance monitoring, incident investigation, and the implementation of health and safety programmes.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct workplace inspections, audits and risk assessments to identify hazards and ensure compliance with safety standards and legal requirements.
- Monitor and promote adherence to health, safety and environmental policies, procedures and regulations.
- Investigate accidents, incidents and near misses, compile reports and recommend corrective actions.
- Support the implementation and monitoring of safety management systems, programmes and initiatives.
- Provide safety coaching, guidance and awareness training to employees and supervisors.
- Monitor emergency preparedness, escape routes and compliance with emergency response procedures.
- Conduct compliance audits and inspections to ensure safe work practices and operational standards are maintained.
- Identify unsafe conditions and behaviours and recommend appropriate corrective and preventative actions.
- Compile and submit safety reports, inspection findings and risk management documentation.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing workplace safety and reducing operational risk.
Requirements
- Grade 12
- 5 years’ experience as a Safety Officer within an opencast mining environment
- COMSOC 1&2/SAMTRAC
- Blasting Certificate for Opencast Mines OR Valid Trade Test Certificate
- Strata Control
- ISO 9001/2015 & ISO 140001 (Advantageous)
- Accident Incident Investigation Techniques
- Legal Liability
