About the Role
Bright Placements (PTY) Ltd is seeking an experienced Field Guide to join our team in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. As a Field Guide, you will be responsible for leading game drives and providing exceptional guest experiences. If you have a passion for wildlife conservation and excellent communication skills, we would love to hear from you.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead game drives in a Big Five Game Reserve
- Provide exceptional guest experiences
- Troubleshoot vehicle maintenance issues with the maintenance team
- Drive in various on- and off-road conditions
- Ensure radio conversations are kept short and direct
- Handle difficult situations in a remote environment
- Participate in basic vehicle maintenance to communicate effectively
Requirements
- Valid and current South African guide’s licence
- Valid PrDP special driver’s licence
- FGASA Qualification Minimum of NQF 4 with Backup Trails (Lead Trails will be a bonus)
- DEAT Registration (Mpumalanga)
- 3 Years Experience as a Field Guide/Ranger in a Big Five Game Reserve
- Self-disciplined, punctual and respectful
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for international guests with diverse cultures
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for staff, being respectful of their culture
- Basic knowledge of Shangaan or another African language is recommended
- Familiarity with basic vehicle maintenance
- Familiarity with driving in various on- and off-road conditions
- Familiarity with radio etiquette
- Good initiative to cope with difficult situations in a remote environment
- Valid first aid training certificate to handle trauma care
Qualifications
No formal education or certifications are required for this role. However, a valid guide’s licence and relevant qualifications are essential.
