About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Head Ranger to lead our guiding department and deliver exceptional safari experiences within a Big 5 environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing all guiding operations, maintaining high guest service standards, managing guide teams, and ensuring the safe and professional operation of safari activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the guiding department and safari operations
  • Conduct professional and engaging game drives and bush activities
  • Ensure exceptional guest experiences and safety standards
  • Train, mentor, and develop guiding staff
  • Manage guide schedules, performance, and departmental standards
  • Ensure guiding equipment and vehicles are maintained correctly
  • Monitor reserve activities and conservation practices
  • Assist with lodge hosting and guest engagement
  • Ensure compliance with lodge SOPs, safety procedures, and conservation standards
  • Handle guest feedback and special requests professionally
  • Work closely with operational departments to ensure seamless guest experiences
  • Uphold the standards and reputation of the property at all times

Requirements

  • FGASA Level 2 minimum (Level 3 advantageous)
  • Lead Trails qualification essential
  • Valid PDP essential
  • Valid First Aid certification
  • ARH and rifle competency essential
  • Previous experience as a Senior Guide or Head Ranger within a Big 5 environment
  • Strong leadership and team management skills
  • Excellent guest relations and hosting ability
  • Extensive knowledge of wildlife, birdlife, ecology, and conservation
  • Experience with guide training and mentoring
  • Good vehicle maintenance knowledge advantageous
  • Professional, well-presented, and guest-focused approach
  • Ability to work under pressure and in a remote environment
  • Computer literacy advantageous
