About the Role

The Safety Officer plays a crucial role in ensuring the identification and management of safety risks, while supporting long-term business interests. As part of our trucking industry team, you will be responsible for implementing and managing safety, health, and environmental processes to ensure responsible business conduct.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage 2 to 4 years of working experience including booking medicals and inductions.
  • Assist management in compiling and updating Hazard Identification and Risk Assessments (HIRA) every 2 years or after incidents.
  • Ensure compliance with various safety acts including OHSA, MHSA, and other related legislation.
  • Maintain compliance with the Road Transport Management System (RTMS) and participate in audits and inspections.
  • Conduct site and workplace audits to ensure compliance with the internal Safety Management System (SMS).
  • Investigate incidents and compile investigation reports as per SMS reporting standards.
  • Liaise with clients and service providers to book medical inductions and exit medicals.
  • Perform 24/7/365 standby duties for emergency response to incidents and accidents.

Requirements

  • Grade 12
  • SAMTRAC or related qualification
  • 2 to 4 years of working experience
  • Experience booking medicals and inductions
  • English and Afrikaans language proficiency
  • Intermediate MS Office skills in Word and Excel

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly skilled Safety Officer to join their team in Akasia, Pretoria. The ideal candidate will provide an integrated Safety Management service to ensure the identification and management of safety risks and implement measures/initiatives that improve workplace safety and support long-term business interests.

Key Responsibilities

  • Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA)
  • Assist management in compiling HIRA’s for their areas
  • Assist management in updating of HIRA’s & Risk profiles every 2 years or after incidents when required

  • Provide inputs into any Modifications, Works Programs & Authorisations required
  • Road Transport Management System (RTMS)
  • Maintaining compliance with RTMS
  • Review audit finding and recommendations
  • Assist in the closing of findings and recommendations
  • Participate in audits & inspections
  • Emergency Preparedness
  • Respond to all emergencies, as required
  • Ensure emergency plans and co-ordinators are in place
  • Compliance with the internal Safety Management System (SMS)
  • Conduct site and workplace audits and inspections to ensure compliance
  • Follow-up and close out of any audit/inspection findings
  • List findings on the follow-up system
  • Non-conformances and deviations are identified and corrected
  • Unsafe acts and conditions identified and reported to management
  • Ensure that deviations are raised in order to prevent incidents
  • Processes stopped when required, e.g. safety risk or non-compliance with legal requirements
  • Incident management
  • Investigate incidents
  • Reporting of incidents to relevant stakeholders (e.g. DoL)
  • Compile incident investigation reports, as per SMS reporting standards
  • Corrective/Preventative Actions are implemented to prevent recurrence
  • Communication and Awareness
  • Attend safety meetings on behalf of Company
  • Issue Safety Alerts & Infograms
  • Investigate suggestions prior to implementation to ensure feasibility and make recommendations where required
  • Investigate and follow up on complaints from employees, as well as from outside the company
  • Communicate legal updates to the relevant plants and management
  • Assist with the preparation of statistics for safety meetings
  • Communicate statistics and trends to employees at various platforms
  • Inform Management of safety issues
  • Relevant management and employees informed of latest changes in legislation
  • Ensure that complaints are properly addressed and that action is taken where required
  • Medical Inductions & Exits
  • Liaise with clients and service providers to make bookings
  • Ensure that required entry/exit medicals packs are completed correctly and all required documents are attached
  • Safety Documentation Update and assist with update of Safety standards and procedures
  • Provide inputs and comments for any Safety related policies & procedures that are being reviewed/updated
  • Ensure latest Safety documentation are available
  • Ensure that Company’s safety files are up to date as per client’s requirements and standards

About the Role

The Safety Officer will be responsible for ensuring a safe working environment for our clients and staff by conducting Hazard Identification and Risk Assessments, maintaining compliance with relevant legislation, and implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.

Key Responsibilities

Job Description

About the Role

The Safety Officer will be responsible for ensuring a safe working environment for employees, clients, and service providers in Pretoria. This role requires strong knowledge of safety legislation and regulations, as well as excellent communication skills to interact with management and staff.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct Hazard Identification and Risk Assessments (HIRA) and update risk profiles.
  • Ensure compliance with OHSA, MHSA and other safety legislation.
  • Maintain Road Transport Management System (RTMS) compliance and assist with audits.
  • Conduct site inspections, safety audits, and follow-up on non-conformances.
  • Investigate incidents and compile incident investigation reports.
  • Implement corrective and preventative actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Coordinate emergency preparedness and response plans.
  • Maintain safety documentation, permits, licences and legal appointments.
  • Manage medical bookings, inductions and exit medicals.
  • Communicate safety updates, statistics and legal changes to management and staff.
  • Build and maintain client and service provider relationships.

Requirements

  • Grade 12 SAMTRAC or related safety qualification
  • 24 years experience (transport & logistics advantageous / mining desirable)
  • Experience with medical bookings and inductions
  • Knowledge of HIRA, incident investigations and safety systems
  • Computer literate ( MS Word & Excel )
  • English and Afrikaans required
