Cape Town City Centre: Junior Accountant

Job Description

The Junior Accountant will function as a combined accounts receivable and accounts payable specialist. The role focuses on managing invoicing, reconciliations, collections, and supplier payments while driving efficiency through integrated systems including Xero, an inventory management system, and ApprovalMax. This position is ideal for a proactive, hands-on individual who thrives in a small-team environment, enjoys process improvement, and is eager to contribute to a growing business. Key Responsibilities: Manage the full accounts receivable and accounts payable functions, including client invoicing (progress billings, commercial and ad hoc project billing) and supplier invoice processing in line with SCM platform requirements (e.g., Ariba/Coupa). Prepare SLA renewal quotes in collaboration with the relevant account managers and manage client onboarding and registration processes. Perform proactive debtor management, including statements, email and telephonic follow-ups, account reconciliations, and the resolution of discrepancies in collaboration with account managers, production teams, and suppliers. Process supplier invoices and credit card receipts, verify against purchase orders and delivery notes, and manage stock-related invoices integrated from the inventory management system into Xero. Execute supplier payments via EFT or batch processing following ApprovalMax approval and maintain strong vendor relationships. Perform regular debtor and bi-monthly creditor reconciliations, investigate variances, and resolve queries timeously. Support month-end close activities, including the preparation of deferred revenue journals, accruals, and balance sheet reconciliations. Maintain accurate, audit-ready financial records in Xero, ensuring SARS compliance, including VAT reporting. Contribute to system and process improvements, including inventory management system and Xero integration troubleshooting. Assist with ad hoc finance tasks and operational support within a lean, fast-paced finance environment. Job Experience and Skills Required: Matric / Grade 12 with a relevant qualification in Accounting or Bookkeeping (Diploma, Certificate, or higher). 35 years experience in accounts receivable and accounts payable roles, preferably within engineering, manufacturing, or project-based environments. Experience with SCM platforms such as Ariba or Coupa is advantageous. Proficiency in Xero, with working knowledge of ApprovalMax and Microsoft Office. Exposure to automation tools for OCR or invoice processing will be beneficial. Strong attention to detail with a high level of accuracy and numerical aptitude. Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with clients and vendors. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a proactive approach to collections and issue resolution. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dual-function role within a lean team environment. About the Role

As the Junior Accountant in our Cape Town City Centre office, you will be responsible for supporting the Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable teams, ensuring accurate financial processing, and providing ad-hoc financial support to the Finance Manager and senior finance team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain assigned budget accounts

  • Prepare reports and schedules to support management decision-making

Requirements

  • Exposure to Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable processes
  • Solid foundation in accounting principles and reconciliations
  • Eagerness to learn and grow within a commercial finance environment

  • Completed SAIPA articles or relevant accounting degree with approximately 3 years experience

About the Role

  • Participate in finance system and workflow improvements, including resolving integration issues between the inventory system and Xero.
  • Provide support with ad-hoc finance duties and operational tasks within a streamlined, high-performance finance team.

Requirements

  • Matric / Grade 12 with a relevant Accounting or Bookkeeping qualification (Certificate, Diploma, or higher).
  • 35 years experience in Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable, preferably within project-based, engineering, or manufacturing environments.
  • Working knowledge of Xero, ApprovalMax, Microsoft Office, and exposure to SCM platforms (e.g. Ariba, Coupa).

About the Role

A leading global creative group based in Cape Town is seeking a Junior Accountant to support our Finance team and agency partners. This role plays a key part in ensuring accurate financial reporting and smooth day-to-day accounting operations across the group.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure transactions are technically compliant and aligned with group policies
  • Prepare month-end reports, including: Bank, intercompany & balance sheet reconciliations
  • Prepayments and accruals schedules
  • Fixed asset register updates & journals
  • General ledger reviews and postings
  • Assist with:
  • Monthly management accounts
  • Budget analysis
  • BAS, Payroll Tax & FBT submissions
  • Handle intercompany invoicing and reconciliations
  • Support Group (MC Plc) reporting requests
  • Ad hoc finance support to the Senior Accountant

Requirements

  • Degree in Accounting (Honours/Postgrad beneficial)
  • 3 years’ experience in a similar role
  • ERP experience essential (Spectra PF / BCC advantageous)
  • Advertising/Media industry experience is a plus
  • Shared services experience beneficial

About the Role

We are seeking a Junior Accountant to join our team in Cape Town City Centre, where you will play a crucial role in managing Accounts Payable and providing administrative support to the finance team. As a key member of our accounting department, you will be responsible for processing invoices, reconciling creditor accounts, and ensuring suppliers are paid accurately and on time.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process and manage Accounts Payable, including capturing supplier invoices, matching invoices to purchase orders, reconciling creditor accounts, managing petty cash, processing journals, and ensuring suppliers are paid accurately and on time
  • Support monthly and ad hoc payments, reconcile supplier statements, investigate variances, analyse accruals and open purchase orders, and liaise with suppliers to resolve queries efficiently
  • Manage Accounts Receivable administration by issuing invoices and credit notes, sending statements, closing projects at month-end, and supporting debtor-related accruals and reporting
  • Provide broader accounting and administrative support including fixed asset processing, bad debt calculations, sales and courier analysis, rent schedules, and preparation of management reports
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and account analysis, preparing cash and revenue forecasts and supporting the Financial Manager with financial insights and ad hoc analysis

Requirements

  • Strong understanding of accounting principles with hands-on experience in Accounts Payable and basic Accounts Receivable functions
  • Experience using Sage accounting software and strong proficiency in Excel
  • Highly detail-oriented with excellent organisational, administrative, and time-management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and work collaboratively within a finance team
  • Strong communication skills with the confidence to liaise with suppliers and internal stakeholders

About the Role

We are seeking a Junior Accountant to join our team in Cape Town City Centre, where you will play a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of our accounts payable and receivable processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Capture and process supplier invoices, ensuring accuracy against purchase orders
  • Reconcile creditor and supplier accounts to statement
  • Ensure timely payments and adherence to AP ageing targets
  • Allocate invoices to correct general ledger accounts and process journals where required
  • Process and reconcile petty cash in line with company policy
  • Issue purchase orders and support procurement administration
  • Perform daily Accounts Receivable functions, including emailing invoices and credit notes
  • Distribute customer statements in line with internal timelines
  • Assist with month-end project closures and revenue-related processes
  • Support debtor activities, including accrued income and WIP reporting
  • Analyse expense accounts to understand cost drivers and variances
  • Build and maintain assigned budget accounts
  • Assist with cash flow and revenue forecasting
  • Prepare reports and schedules to support management decision-making

Requirements

  • Exposure to Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable processes
  • Solid foundation in accounting principles and reconciliations
  • Eagerness to learn and grow within a commercial finance environment

Qualifications

Completed SAIPA articles or relevant accounting degree with approximately 3 years experience

About the Role

The Junior Accountant role in our Cape Town City Centre office offers an exciting opportunity for a self-motivated and hands-on individual to join our close-knit team. As a key member of our finance function, you will be responsible for operating in a blended accounts receivable and accounts payable capacity, driving efficiencies through integrated platforms, and contributing to the growth of our business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the end-to-end accounts receivable and accounts payable function, including client invoicing (progress claims, commercial and ad hoc project billing) and supplier invoice processing in line with SCM platform requirements.
  • Prepare SLA renewal quotations in partnership with the relevant account managers and manage client onboarding and registration processes.
  • Drive proactive debtor management, including statement distribution, email and telephone follow-ups, account reconciliations, and the resolution of discrepancies in collaboration with account managers, production teams, and suppliers.
  • Process supplier invoices and credit card receipts, verify against purchase orders and delivery documentation, and manage stock-related invoices integrated from the inventory management system into Xero.
  • Execute supplier payments via EFT or batch processing following ApprovalMax approvals, while maintaining strong supplier relationships.
  • Conduct regular debtor and bi-monthly creditor reconciliations, investigate variances, and resolve queries promptly.
  • Support month-end close activities, including the preparation of deferred revenue journals, accruals, and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Maintain accurate, audit-ready financial records within Xero, ensuring compliance with SARS requirements, including VAT submissions.
  • Contribute to finance system and process enhancements, including troubleshooting integrations between the inventory management system and Xero.
  • Provide assistance with ad hoc finance tasks and operational support within a lean, fast-paced finance function.

Requirements

  • Matric / Grade 12
  • A relevant Accounting or Bookkeeping qualification (Certificate, Diploma, or higher)
  • 35 years of experience in accounts receivable and accounts payable roles, ideally within engineering, manufacturing, or project-based sectors
  • Exposure to SCM platforms, such as Ariba or Coupa, would be advantageous
  • Strong working knowledge of Xero
  • Familiarity with ApprovalMax and Microsoft Office
  • Experience with automation tools for OCR or invoice processing will be beneficial
