About the Role

We are seeking a Junior Accountant to join our team in Cape Town City Centre. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in accounting principles and be able to apply their skills in a fast-paced environment.

About the Role

Our client operates in a specialized, project-based technical environment, delivering tailored digital and engineering-driven solutions to a diverse client base. They are growing steadily and have created a new, full-time Accounts Receivable / Accounts Payable role to strengthen their finance function and improve automation across systems. This is a hands-on opportunity within a lean finance team, reporting directly to the Financial Manager.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and issue client invoices, including progress billings, commercial invoices and ad-hoc project billing, ensuring compliance with relevant SCM platforms.
  • Manage debtor collections proactively through statements, reminders, calls and follow-ups, resolving queries and escalating where required.
  • Process supplier invoices and credit card transactions, ensuring correct coding and posting in Xero.
  • Execute supplier payments (EFT/batch) following ApprovalMax authorization and maintain strong vendor relationships.
  • Perform bi-monthly creditor reconciliations and resolve discrepancies timeously.
  • Support month-end processes, including accruals, deferred revenue journals and reconciliations.
  • Maintain accurate, audit-ready records in Xero, ensuring compliance with VAT and regulatory requirements.
  • Contribute to system improvements and assist with troubleshooting between the inventory system and accounting platform.

Requirements

  • Qualified CA(SA)
  • 35 years of experience in an AR/AP role
  • Experience in a project-based, engineering or manufacturing environment (advantageous)
  • Exposure to SCM platforms such as Ariba or Coupa (beneficial)
  • Proficient in Xero (essential)
  • Working knowledge of ApprovalMax and Microsoft Office (especially Excel and Outlook) (essential)

About the Role

We are seeking a Junior Accountant to join our finance team in Cape Town City Centre. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for processing accounting transactions, preparing financial reports, and ensuring compliance with tax requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process accounting transactions up to Trial Balance
  • Perform General Ledger reconciliations
  • Assist with the preparation of monthly management reporting packs
  • Ensure invoices are processed in the correct accounting period
  • Prepare and submit VAT201 and EMP201 calculations and returns in accordance with SARS requirements
  • Process weekly wages
  • Assist with payroll reconciliations
  • Match GRNs to supplier invoices and investigate discrepancies
  • Perform monthly creditor reconciliations
  • Follow up on outstanding invoices
  • Report outstanding amounts, queries, and claims to the Financial Manager
  • Process all supplier credit notes
  • Investigate and resolve supplier claims
  • Assist with audit preparation and related documentation
  • Compile various ad-hoc financial reports as required
  • Perform general administrative duties within the finance department

Requirements

  • Relevant qualification in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • 3 years experience in a similar accounting role
  • Working knowledge of VAT, EMP201 submissions, and payroll processes
  • Strong reconciliation and numerical skills
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and meet strict deadlines

  • Formal education/certifications (Bachelor’s, LLB, Matric, etc.) are required for this role.
