About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager with a strong background in comminution equipment design to lead our team in developing robust and manufacturable crushing systems that meet customer requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of crushing equipment and systems, ensuring designs are robust, manufacturable, and aligned with customer requirements.
- Oversee 3D modelling, detailed drawings, BOMs, and FEA across the team.
- Manage, mentor, and develop a team of mechanical design engineers and drafters.
- Set clear objectives, conduct performance reviews, and manage departmental resources.
- Drive multiple design projects from concept through to production release on time and within budget.
- Conduct design reviews, risk assessments, and DFMEAs.
- Collaborate with product management, manufacturing, supply chain, field service, and sales teams.
- Translate customer requirements into practical engineering solutions.
- Support aftermarket and service teams with technical guidance and field issue resolution.
- Establish and maintain engineering standards, procedures, and design guidelines.
- Ensure compliance with relevant standards (ISO, ASME, CE, SANS) and manage all design documentation.
- Collaborate with manufacturing to resolve DFM issues and support production trials.
- Develop and manage the engineering department budget; implement value engineering initiatives.
Requirements
- BEng or BSc in Mechanical Engineering (or similar technical qualification).
- 10+ years of engineering experience in mechanical or structural design.
- 5+ years in a senior design or lead engineering capacity.
- Proven experience in the mining industry preferably with crushing, processing, or materials handling equipment.
- Background in equipment design, manufacturing, and field/service environments.
- Proficient in CAD software with strong 3D modelling and drafting capability.
- FEA experience advantageous; structural design experience beneficial.
- Commercially aware understands cost implications and value engineering.
