Port Elizabeth: IT Specialist

Job Description

1. IT Infrastructure & Hardware Management Install, configure, and maintain IT hardware, including desktops, laptops, industrial PCs, printers, scanners, handheld devices, and shopfloor terminals. Support production-line IT equipment and operator workstations. Manage hardware lifecycle, asset registers, tracking, and replacement planning. Coordinate IT equipment procurement and supplier relationships. Manage all company cellphone contracts. 2. Systems Administration Administer Windows Server environments, Active Directory, and user access controls. Ensure availability of ERP, manufacturing, and commercial systems. Manage Microsoft 365, cloud services, and collaboration platforms. Implement system updates, patching, and performance monitoring. Maintain backup and disaster recovery processes. Support EDI systems and OEM customer portals where applicable. 3. Network & Connectivity Management Maintain LAN/WAN infrastructure, Wi-Fi networks, and VPN connectivity across sites. Configure and manage switches, routers, firewalls, and network security devices. Ensure reliable connectivity for: Production systems (Checkmate) Remote users Monitor network performance and proactively resolve issues. Support multi-site connectivity in line with business growth plans. 4. Cybersecurity & Automotive Compliance Manage cybersecurity standards aligned with automotive industry requirements. Support compliance with: TISAX ISO 27001 principles OEM customer IT security requirements (Cyber Security Supply Chain) POPIA regulations Manage endpoint protection, antivirus solutions, and access controls. Conduct vulnerability monitoring and incident response activities. Coordinate internal and customer IT audits. 5. Production & Operational Support Provide IT support to manufacturing operations to ensure uninterrupted production. Support barcode systems, label printers, traceability systems, and quality data capture. Partner with Operations on automation and digitalisation initiatives. Assist with system integration for new production lines and equipment. Participate in plant projects and continuous improvement initiatives. 6. User Support & Service Delivery Deliver first- and second-line IT support to plant and office users. Manage onboarding and offboarding processes, including accounts, devices, and permissions. Maintain the IT helpdesk and incident tracking system. Train employees on system usage and cybersecurity awareness. 7. Documentation & Governance Maintain IT policies, procedures, and infrastructure documentation (IMS). Support management reporting on IT performance, compliance, and risks. 8. Commercial Data & Reporting Develop and maintain dashboards and commercial KPIs. Manage commercial databases and analytical tools. Improve data accuracy and reporting automation. Maintain customer pricing databases and commercial agreements. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) Mean Time to Resolution (MTTR) Average time taken to resolve IT incidents. First Contact Resolution (FCR) Percentage of issues resolved during the first interaction. First Response Time (FRT) Average time taken to acknowledge new tickets. Customer Satisfaction Score (CSAT) End-user feedback on IT support quality. System Uptime Percentage Availability of critical systems and networks. Backup Success Rate Percentage of successful scheduled backups. Patch Compliance Rate Percentage of endpoints and servers updated within required timeframes. Time to Detect (TTD) Average time taken to identify security threats. Time to Contain (TTC) Average time taken to isolate and neutralise threats. Security Incident Rate Number of successful breaches, malware infections, or security incidents over a defined period. 3.5 Additional Tasks Perform additional duties as assigned by the direct superior. 3.6 Quality Management System The incumbent is required to comply with the processes and requirements of the current versions of IATF 16949, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and ISO 50001 standards where applicable and certified at the site. All relevant HR regulations must also be adhered to. Relevant manuals and guidelines are available within the department. 3.7 Attendance at Meetings Plan, support, and lead meetings relevant to the role. Be willing to work flexible hours when required. Attend daily operational meetings. Attend monthly meetings with the direct superior. Participate in project-related meetings as required. 3.8 Job Requirements Educational Requirements & Experience BTech or Honours Degree in Information Technology (preferred). 24 years’ experience, with manufacturing IT exposure advantageous. Exposure to cybersecurity standards, particularly TISAX and ISO 27001 compliance. Personal Competencies Strong attention to detail and analytical thinking. Self-motivated with a willingness to learn. Ability to work independently and within a team. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to perform under pressure and meet deadlines. Operating within a Tier 1 automotive manufacturing environment, the successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring the reliability, security, and performance of the company’s IT infrastructure, systems, networks, and production support technologies. This position offers the opportunity to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment while contributing to digital transformation, cybersecurity, and continuous improvement initiatives. The Role Reporting to the Commercial Manager, the IT Specialist will be responsible for supporting and maintaining the organisation’s IT infrastructure, systems, networks, cybersecurity controls, and end-user environments. The role supports both plant operations and commercial functions, ensuring business continuity, operational uptime, and compliance with automotive industry standards. Key ResponsibilitiesIT Infrastructure & Hardware Management Install, configure, and maintain desktops, laptops, servers, printers, scanners, handheld devices, industrial PCs, and production floor terminals. Support manufacturing and production-line IT equipment. Manage hardware lifecycle planning, asset registers, and equipment procurement. Coordinate with suppliers and service providers regarding IT equipment and services. Manage company mobile device and cellphone contracts. Systems Administration Administer Windows Server environments and Active Directory. Manage user accounts, permissions, and access controls. Support ERP, manufacturing, and business-critical systems. Administer Microsoft 365 and cloud-based collaboration platforms. Perform system updates, patch management, backups, and disaster recovery activities. Experience with hardware support, troubleshooting, and user support. Exposure to backup and disaster recovery processes. Experience within a manufacturing, automotive, logistics, or industrial environment will be advantageous. Advantageous Experience Microsoft 365 Administration. Cybersecurity frameworks and standards.
