Port Elizabeth: Junior Accountant

Job Description

Job Overview: The Junior Accountant will support the Finance Director in maintaining accurate financial records, preparing reports, and ensuring compliance with South African accounting standards and assisting with cost control in a manufacturing environment. The candidate is expected to handle day -to – day accounting tasks independently. This role is ideal for a suitably qualified detail – oriented individual. Key Responsibilities: Financial record keeping: Capture and reconcile financial transactions, including sales, purchases and expenses in accordance with company processes. Maintain general ledger entries and ensure accuracy of trial balances. Reporting: Assist with preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements. Accounts payable and receivable: Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions, including supplier invoices, customer billing and follow up on outstanding payments. Compliance: Assist with VAT, and other statutory submissions to SARS. Ensure compliance with IFRS and local accounting standards. Payroll assistance: Support payroll processing and statutory submissions (PAYE, UIF, SDL). Bank reconciliation: Monitor cash flow and prepare bank reconciliations. Audit preparation: Support internal and external audits by providing required documentation and schedules. Inventory and costing support: Assist in monitoring raw material and finished goods inventory, ensuring accurate costing of products. Other: Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis as and when required. Minimum Requirements: 3-year accounting degree / diploma (e.g. BCOM Accounting) 3 years accounting experience. Knowledge of South African tax laws and compliance requirements. Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Sage, Pastel). Advanced MS Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP). Strong administrative abilities and skills Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills. Strong analytical and problem – solving abilities. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Good verbal and written communication skills. Valid driver’s license.
