Port Elizabeth: Senior IT Technician

Job Description

Key Responsibilities Install, configure, maintain, migrate, and upgrade Windows Server environments across client sites. Administer Active Directory, including user, group, OU, DNS, and Group Policy management. Plan, perform, and verify server backups; execute restores and disaster recovery procedures. Administer Microsoft 365 environments, including Exchange Online, SharePoint, Teams, OneDrive, and licensing. Provide second- and third-line Windows desktop support, including printers, software, Windows updates, drivers, and general troubleshooting. Diagnose and resolve hardware issues, including RAM, storage, and peripheral upgrades. Monitor client environments using remote management tools and proactively respond to alerts. Maintain accurate documentation of systems, incidents, changes, and procedures. Engage directly with clients on-site and remotely, providing clear communication and professional service. Participate in infrastructure projects such as migrations, rollouts, and technology refreshes. Provide informal technical guidance and support to junior team members where required. Essential Experience & Skills Minimum 5 years hands-on experience in IT support or systems administration, ideally within an MSP environment. Strong Windows Server experience (2016/2019/2022 or later), including installation, maintenance, migration, and upgrades. Solid Active Directory administration experience, including Group Policy, DNS, users, groups, and OUs. Hands-on experience with backup and disaster recovery solutions (e.g. Veeam, Acronis, or similar). Microsoft 365 administration experience, including Exchange Online, licensing, and collaboration tools. Strong desktop support experience across Windows environments and end-user technologies. Practical hardware troubleshooting and upgrade experience (storage, memory, peripherals). Good understanding of networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, Wi-Fi, and basic firewall concepts. Familiarity with endpoint security, patching, and general IT security best practices. Preferred Experience Microsoft Azure (virtual machines, networking, and core cloud services). Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD), including hybrid identity and MFA. Microsoft Intune or endpoint management tools. RMM platforms (e.g. NinjaOne, Datto RMM, N-able, ConnectWise, or similar). Exposure to firewall technologies (Sophos, FortiGate, MikroTik) or VoIP systems. Virtualisation experience (Hyper-V or VMware). Qualifications Matric / Grade 12 (essential). Relevant IT qualifications or certifications advantageous (e.g. CompTIA, Microsoft certifications, MCSA/MCSE, AZ-104, MS-102 or equivalent). Formal qualifications are not essential, with strong emphasis placed on demonstrable experience and technical capability. Requirements Valid South African drivers licence and own reliable transport (essential). Based in or able to commute reliably to Gqeberha. Willingness to travel between client sites. Availability for occasional after-hours support and maintenance windows.
