About the Role
The Business Intelligence (BI) Tester role is a critical component of our organization’s data-driven decision-making process. As a BI Tester, you will be responsible for ensuring the quality and accuracy of our business intelligence solutions, working closely with cross-functional teams to identify and resolve defects.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and execute test plans and test cases for ETL processes, data integration workflows, data marts, and reporting platforms (e.g., Power BI)
- Perform data validation and reconciliation between source systems and target BI systems
- Conduct functional, integration, system, regression, and performance testing on BI solutions and data pipelines
- Identify data quality issues and inconsistencies, log defects, and track them through to resolution
- Validate the correctness of business logic applied in BI reports, dashboards, and analytics solutions
- Collaborate with BI developers, data engineers, business analysts, and stakeholders to understand requirements and expected outcomes
- Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies (e.g., sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives) where applicable
- Maintain comprehensive testing documentation, including test cases, test results, defect logs, and sign-off reports
- Assist with user acceptance testing (UAT) and provide support for end-user validation where required
Requirements
- Computer science/ information systems/ statistics or mathematics diploma or degree
- Business Intelligence or Data Testing related certifications (i.e. Azure Data Engineer Associate, Data Analyst Associate (Power BI), SQL Server Database Development, Administration ETL, Certified Agile Tester (CAT))
- Minimum of eight years experience in a Tester role in a data and BI environment
- A minimum of ten years experience in T-SQL (Transact-SQL) for data validation, query development, and test scripting
- A minimum of six years experience testing SSIS (SQL Server Integration Services) and ETL processes, including validating data pipelines and transformation logic
- A minimum of four years experience testing and verifying Power BI dashboards
- A minimum of four years experience working with and testing Data Marts, including schema validation and data accuracy
