About the Role
The Operations Manager role at our Agriculture company is a critical position that requires a seasoned candidate with extensive experience in the poultry environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating and sustaining a cost-effective broiler operations environment, ensuring optimal functioning of various departments, and driving business growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Creating and sustaining a cost-effective broiler operations environment
- Managing resources and controlling production targets and quality standards
- Drawing up and controlling the broiler chicken production capital and operating budget on an annual basis
- Monitoring and approving expenditure and revenue of specific departments within approved mandate
- Ensuring optimal functioning of the Farm Services Administration Dept as a support function to internal and external stakeholders
- Negotiating with suppliers of day-old chickens and ensuring supplier agreements are in place and maintained
- Transporting live birds to the abattoir, adhering to existing SLAs and legislation
- Managing poultry nutrition, health, housing, and equipment
- Maintaining environmental control in poultry production
- Identifying, evaluating, and reporting on economic feasibility with respect to broiler production
- Initiating corrective measures for production-related problems and monitoring results
- Providing continuous liaison with internal departments/customers/suppliers/growers on product standards and quality aspects
Requirements
- Proven experience in a similar operations management role in the poultry industry (minimum 5 years)
- Strong understanding of broiler chicken production, including resources management and quality control
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to negotiate with suppliers and manage relationships with internal stakeholders
- Strong communication and liaison skills
Qualifications
- Tertiary qualification in a relevant field (desirable)
