About the Role
We are seeking a talented and creative Pastry Sous Chef to join our luxury lodge team in Hoedspruit. As a key member of our culinary team, you will be responsible for creating exceptional desserts, pastries, and baked goods that complement our world-class guest experience.
Key Responsibilities
• Collaborate with the Executive Chef to develop and refine pastry menus
• Create innovative, seasonal, and visually appealing dessert offerings
• Supervise the preparation and presentation of all pastries, desserts, and baked goods
• Ensure consistency and excellence across all pastry products
• Oversee daily pastry kitchen operations, including stock control and inventory management
• Manage ordering and ensure adequate stock levels are maintained
• Uphold the highest standards of food quality, presentation, and guest satisfaction
• Maintain exceptional hygiene and food safety standards
• Train, mentor, and support junior pastry chefs and kitchen staff
• Delegate tasks effectively while fostering a positive and collaborative kitchen environment
• Assist with food cost management by reducing waste and maximizing ingredient utilization
• Maintain accurate production and cost records
• Accommodate guest dietary requirements and special requests where necessary
• Occasionally interact with guests during special events and culinary experiences
Requirements
Diploma or Degree in Culinary Arts with a focus on Pastry Arts preferred
Minimum of 3–5 years’ experience within a luxury hospitality or high-end culinary environment
At least 1–2 years’ experience in a supervisory or leadership role
Advanced pastry skills, including chocolate work, sugar art, and artisanal bread-making
Strong creative flair and passion for innovative dessert creation
Excellent organisational and multitasking abilities
High attention to detail and commitment to excellence
Strong leadership and team management skills
Ability to work efficiently under pressure and meet deadlines
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Physically capable of meeting the demands of a busy kitchen environment
Qualifications
No formal education or certifications required.
Salary & Benefits
Salary of R20,000 per month DOE. Live-in accommodation provided.
