Johannesburg: Legal and Compliance Officer

Job Description

Key Responsibilities Ensure ongoing compliance with applicable legislation, regulations, and industry best practices. Assist in the development, implementation, and monitoring of compliance and risk management frameworks. Conduct regulatory reviews and compliance assessments across the business. Monitor and mitigate operational, legal, regulatory, and reputational risks. Draft, review, and manage legal agreements, policies, and internal governance documents. Provide guidance to stakeholders on compliance, legal, and risk-related matters. Support KYC, AML, FICA, POPIA, and other regulatory compliance requirements. Maintain and update risk registers and compliance monitoring plans. Assist with internal audits, regulatory reporting, and external compliance reviews. Monitor legislative and regulatory developments and assess their impact on the business. Deliver compliance awareness and training initiatives across the organisation. Support transaction teams by identifying and managing legal and regulatory risks associated with advisory mandates. Asset management experience would be an added advantage Minimum Requirements Bachelor’s Degree in Law, Risk Management, Compliance, Corporate Governance, Finance, or a related field. Postgraduate qualification or Master’s Degree advantageous. 36 years’ experience within Risk, Legal, Compliance, Corporate Governance, Financial Services, Investment Banking, Advisory, or a related environment. Strong understanding of South African regulatory frameworks and corporate governance principles. Knowledge of FICA, AML, POPIA, Companies Act, B-BBEE legislation, and other relevant regulatory requirements. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and report-writing skills. Strong stakeholder management and communication abilities. High attention to detail with the ability to work in a fast-paced, transaction-driven environment. Why Apply?
