CATTLEMAN

A well-established company within the agricultural and feedlot industry is seeking a skilled and hands-on Cattleman to join their team in Nigel. We are looking for a driven individual with strong livestock handling experience, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced feedlot environment.

The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining cattle health, overseeing feedlot operations, ensuring accurate administration, and supporting the daily movement and management of livestock.

Minimum Requirements

  • Matric (Grade 12)
  • Minimum 3 years experience within a cattle feedlot environment
  • Sound knowledge of cattle medication and veterinary products
  • Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills
  • Strong numeracy and administrative skills
  • Excellent communication and leadership abilities
  • Fluent in English and Afrikaans
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Willing to work weekends, overtime, night shifts, and public holidays when required

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify, diagnose, and treat sick cattle
  • Manage calf herds and monitor cattle wellbeing
  • Process incoming livestock and maintain accurate records
  • Offload and dispatch cattle efficiently
  • Administer vaccinations and prescribed treatments
  • Allocate cattle to designated pens
  • Conduct post-mortem examinations when required
  • Capture daily operational data and compile reports
  • Control veterinary stock, medicines, and related records
  • Monitor feed bunks and feed distribution
  • Handle livestock administration and documentation
  • Manage timesheets, leave records, and basic disciplinary administration
  • Coordinate and plan daily cattle movement within the feedlot
