Job Description

This role calls for a skilled and reliable chef who is passionate about delivering high-quality cuisine in a luxury lodge environment. Working closely with the Head Chef, the Sous Chef will play a key role in ensuring consistency, efficiency, and excellence across all kitchen operations. This position is ideal for someone who thrives in a structured environment, can handle pressure, and is committed to maintaining high culinary standards.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Formal culinary qualification
  • Previous experience as a Sous Chef or strong Chef de Partie in a 4/5-star lodge or hotel
  • Strong leadership and kitchen management skills
  • Ability to work in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment
  • Excellent attention to detail and consistency in food preparation
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills
  • Good understanding of food hygiene and kitchen safety standards

Candidate Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Head Chef in managing daily kitchen operations
  • Ensure consistent quality and presentation of all dishes
  • Supervise and support junior kitchen staff
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness and organisation in the kitchen
  • Assist with stock control, ordering, and minimising wastage
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and hygiene standards
  • Step into a leadership role in the absence of the Head Chef

Package details:

  • 7% company contribution to provident fund and 50% medical aid subsidy (capped at R1,800, effective from month 4)
  • Three meals per day provided (balanced, seven-day rotational menu)
  • Access to staff recreation centre (pool, games room, and fully equipped gym)
  • Covered parking and staff transport provided
  • 21/7 work cycle with 21 days annual leave
