Pietermaritzburg: Facilities Manager

Job Description

Duties and responsibilities: Building Maintenance and Operations – Oversee daily operations of buildings and facilities – Ensure proper functioning of: Electrical reticulation systems Plumbing systems HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) Lighting systems Elevators and generators -Schedule preventive and corrective maintenance Health and Safety Management – Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations – Conduct safety inspections and risk assessments – Implement emergency procedures and evacuation plans – Monitor fire safety systems and equipment Space Management – Allocate and optimize office or building space – Plan office layouts and workspace utilization – Coordinate relocations and renovations Security Management – Supervise security systems and personnel – Monitor access control and surveillance systems – Ensure protection of assets, employees, and visitors Budgeting and Cost Control -Prepare facility budgets – Monitor operational expenses – Control maintenance and utility costs – Negotiate contracts with vendors and service providers Vendor and Contract Management – Hire and supervise contractors and suppliers – Evaluate service quality – Manage service agreements and procurement processes Environmental and Sustainability Management – Promote energy efficiency and waste reduction – Ensure environmental compliance – Implement sustainable building practices Asset Management – Maintain records of equipment and property assets – Track repairs, replacements, and warranties – Plan for asset lifecycle management Customer/Occupant Services – Address complaints and facility-related requests – Ensure a comfortable and productive environment – Coordinate cleaning, catering, and support services Compliance and Documentation – Maintain facility records and reports – Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements – Prepare inspection and audit documentation Key Requirements Matric and tertiary qualification Minimum 5 years experience in similar role Own transport with drivers licence Computer literate (Office 365) Technical knowledge of building systems Budgeting and financial management skills
