About the Role
The Maintenance Supervisor (Facilities) is a key position in our facilities management team, responsible for overseeing the maintenance and gardening teams. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the smooth day-to-day operations of the estate’s facilities, including maintenance, repairs, and garden upkeep.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversees work assigned to the maintenance and gardening team
- Addresses minor discipline problems, referring serious cases to the Estate Manager
- Plans and prepares training for new team members
- Evaluates facilities for repairs
- Plans and prioritises work schedules with the Estate Manager
- Obtains supplies and tools
- Collaborates with team members to plan upcoming work assignments
- Assists team members with technical issues
- Inspects and signs off on work carried out
- Conducts routine inspections of the site and notes items for repair
- Liaises with contractors on site
- Ensures work is carried out safely in line with OHSA regulations
- Conducts regular inspections of the site and checks that team members are doing as instructed
- Conducts regular inspections of the workshop, Paint shop, and garden shed to ensure they are kept neat and tidy
- Carries out regular inspections of the gardens, lawns areas, catchpits, and stormwater channels to ensure they are well maintained
- Regularly checks tools and inventory
- Is available after hours for emergencies
- Carries out any repairs required to equipment (both maintenance and gardening equipment)
- Carries out any required repairs to irrigation systems
- Instructs and guides team members on how to carry out a required job
Requirements
- Proficient in English and Afrikaans (isiXhosa is an added benefit)
- Ability to impart knowledge and show initiative
- Work independently
- Lead by example and problem solve promptly and efficiently
- Ability to manage, lead, plan, organise, and communicate effectively
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Effectively manage staff
- Ability to work well within a team
- Computer literate – MS Office basic
- General knowledge of electrical, plumbing, and general maintenance (3 years)
- Garden maintenance and irrigation experience and knowledge (3 years)
- Experience in a similar role is required
Qualifications
- Grade 12 and preferably a technical diploma
