About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead and manage our Mechanical Engineering department, overseeing the design, development, and implementation of mechanical systems and projects. The ideal candidate will drive continuous improvement initiatives, provide technical guidance, and mentor junior engineers. This is a unique opportunity for a seasoned professional to contribute to strategic planning, risk management, and long-term engineering development.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the Mechanical Engineering department, including engineers, technicians, and project teams.
- Oversee the design, development, and implementation of mechanical systems and projects.
- Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and according to quality standards.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity and operational efficiency.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior and mid-level engineers.
- Review and approve engineering drawings, specifications, and calculations.
- Manage project budgets, cost controls, and resource allocation.
- Liaise with clients, suppliers, and internal stakeholders to ensure successful project execution.
- Ensure compliance with relevant South African regulations, safety standards, and industry best practices.
Requirements
- BEng / BSc / BTech in Mechanical Engineering.
- Professional registration with Engineering Council of South Africa (Pr Eng / Pr Tech Eng preferred).
- Minimum 5 years mechanical engineering experience, with at least 2 years in a managerial or senior leadership role.
- Strong experience in project management within manufacturing, heavy industry, mining, or related sectors.
- Proven experience managing multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical design software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Inventor).
