- Grade 12 (Matric).Trade-tested artisan (Mechanical / Millwright / Fitter / Boilermaker or equivalent).
- 2 – 4 years’ experience in a technical workshop or field service role.
- Health & Safety, First Aid, and Fire Fighting certification.
- Valid Code 14 driver’s license (advantageous).
- Willingness to travel locally and internationally.
- Completion of formal Health & Safety and compliance programs related to workshop operations.
The Technician, reporting to the Senior Working Foreman, is responsible for carrying out technical, mechanical, and
maintenance tasks in the workshop and on-site. This hands-on role includes performing repairs, servicing,
inspections, and technical support to ensure quality workmanship and compliance with Health and Safety standards.
The Technician also supports safety compliance as a certified First Aider and Fire Fighter, while maintaining
professionalism and customer satisfaction.
Scope of Responsibilities (not limited to):
- Technical & Operational Tasks
- Perform mechanical, hydraulic, and auto-electrical repair, servicing, and maintenance tasks.
- Complete Pre-Delivery Inspections (PDIs) for new and second-hand machines.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues in the workshop and on-site.
- Ensure all repairs and servicing meet OEM and company quality standards.
- Assist with fabrication and welding where required.
- Support workshop workflow and assist senior staff with task allocation.
- Maintain and timeously submit accurate job cards, timesheets, and service records.
Health, Safety and Compliance
- Comply with OHSA requirements and assist in promoting zero workplace accidents.
- Perform daily safety checks and inspections of tools and equipment.
- Conduct and participate in toolbox talks, focusing on PPE and safe practices.
- Immediately report safety hazards or equipment concerns to the Senior Working Foreman or relevant manager.
- Act as First Aider and Fire Fighter in line with company health and safety requirements.
- Promote safe housekeeping practices in the workshop and on-site.
Quality Control (Production and Repairs)
- Ensure “Fix Right First Time” standards in all repairs and servicing.
- Inspect equipment and ensure quality before release to customers, verifying compliance with specifications.
- Maintain accuracy and up to date workshop documentation and quality checklists.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and ensure prompt resolution of identified issues.
- Conduct daily PPE checks, enforce correct PPE for specific / allocated task / job, ensure personal compliance and raise non-compliance to supervisors.
- Recommend and support implemented processes for operational improvements
Customer Support
- Provide on-site technical assistance and support to customers.
- Resolve customer complaints / issues / enquiries or escalate them to the Senior Working
- Foreman or provide clear feedback where necessary within 24 hours.
- Maintain professional communication and a strong customer service focus.
Training and Development:
- Participate and promote internal and external training opportunities for team development.
- Participate in training programs to develop technical knowledge and safety awareness.
- Assist in mentoring apprentices and junior staff by sharing technical expertise.
- Encourage ongoing technical skills development across the team.
Standby and After Hours:
- Participate in standby roster as required, responding to standby calls within 30 minutes.
- Be available for overtime and after-hours support when needed.
Equipment Maintenance and Safety:
- Perform and/or assist with monthly inspections of all equipment to ensure safety compliance.
- Submit relevant checklists promptly and report any safety concerns or defects immediately.
- Verify that quality inspections and documentation are completed before equipment leaves the premises or is dispatched for on-site support.
- Inspect all lifting equipment regularly, ensuring valid certification and immediate reporting of any defects.
- Plan, coordinate, allocate, and supervise daily work assignments where necessary.
- Monitor progress and perform quality checks on completed work.
- Provide hands-on support with repairs, fabrication, servicing, and maintenance.
- Enforce compliance with Health and Safety regulations and safe work practices.
- Coordinate with internal departments to ensure job completion.
- Maintain and sign off, where applicable, accurate records (job cards, PDIs, timesheets, parts used, build specs, reports, etc.).
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues in workshop and on-site.
- Manage tool/equipment use, maintenance, and PPE compliance.
- Monitor inventory and request materials as required.
- Provide performance feedback and disciplinary support to management.
- Assist in mentoring apprentices and junior staff by sharing technical expertise and support skills development.
- Always represent the company professionally.
- Participate in toolbox talks, meetings, and planning sessions.
- Perform additional duties as requested by Management.
- Assist with enforcing company policies, compliance with safety, quality and operational procedures.
- Ensure work is completed to standard, on time, and within scope.
- Ensure proper use and care of resources, tools, and materials required for job execution.
- Provide frequent updates on production and operational matters to management on progress and report delays promptly.
- Ensure daily housekeeping and maintenance of the workshop/site environment.

- Strong technical knowledge (mechanical, hydraulic, auto electrical).
- Hands-on repair and troubleshooting ability.
- Knowledge of OEM standards and workshop tools/equipment.
- Solid understanding of Health & Safety practices and legal compliance.
- Strong problem-solving, decision making, analytical and fault-finding skills.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written).
- Promoting positive attitude and collaborative working culture.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Attention to detail, discipline, quality control and time management.
- Computer literacy (Microsoft Office, job tracking systems).
- Sober habits and professional demeanour.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must be physically and medically fit to perform technical and manual tasks.
- Ability to lift, move, and work with heavy equipment.
- Reliable attendance and strict adherence to PPE requirements at all times.
- Professional appearance and conduct.
- Mobility to attend meetings, perform inspections, and provide technical support as and when requested.
- Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staff and external clients.
