Middelburg: Workshop Assistant

Job Description

The ideal candidate should be eager to learn, physically fit, safety-conscious, and capable of working in a fast-paced workshop environment. Key Responsibilities Assist Fitters, Turners, and other artisans with daily workshop activities. Support the assembly, maintenance, and repair of mechanical equipment and components. Operate basic workshop machinery and hand tools under supervision. Assist with measuring, cutting, grinding, drilling, and fitting tasks. Maintain workshop cleanliness and ensure tools and equipment are stored correctly. Load, unload, and move materials and components as required. Conduct basic inspections of equipment and report defects or safety concerns. Adhere to company safety procedures and housekeeping standards. Assist with stock control, tool management, and material handling. Perform any other workshop-related duties as assigned by management. Minimum Requirements Fitter & Turner qualification, apprenticeship, or relevant mechanical engineering training advantageous. 13 years’ experience in a mechanical, engineering, manufacturing, or mining workshop environment. Basic understanding of fitting, turning, machining, and workshop practices. Ability to read and interpret basic engineering drawings will be advantageous. Competent in the use of hand tools, measuring equipment, and workshop machinery. Physically fit and capable of performing manual labour. Good communication skills and ability to work effectively within a team. Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship. Valid driver’s licence will be advantageous. Must be willing to work overtime when required. Personal Attributes Energetic and motivated. Willingness to learn and develop technical skills. Reliable and punctual. Strong work ethic.
