About the Role
The North West: Engineering Assistant (Mining Industry) role at Marvel Placement Consultant requires a skilled and experienced individual to support engineering teams in a mining environment. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in mechanical and electrical maintenance processes, as well as knowledge of mining safety standards and regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist engineering teams with daily maintenance and repair activities.
- Support breakdown maintenance and routine inspections on mining equipment and plant machinery.
- Prepare and maintain tools, equipment, and materials required for maintenance tasks.
- Ensure tools and work areas are kept clean, safe, and organised.
- Assist with installation, servicing, and dismantling of mechanical and electrical components.
- Provide general support during shutdowns and planned maintenance activities.
- Adhere to mining health, safety, and environmental regulations at all times.
- Report unsafe conditions, incidents, or equipment defects to supervisors.
- Assist with maintenance records, checklists, and job cards.
- Provide feedback to supervisors regarding maintenance progress and equipment conditions.
Requirements
- Grade 12 / Matric certificate.
- N2 Engineering qualification or relevant technical qualification will be advantageous.
- Minimum of 2–4 years’ experience in a mining, plant, engineering, or heavy industrial environment.
- Previous experience assisting artisans, fitters, electricians, or engineering teams on site.
- Basic understanding of mechanical and electrical maintenance processes.
- Knowledge of mining safety standards and regulations.
- Ability to work shifts, overtime, and within demanding operational environments.
- Good communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
- Physically fit and capable of working in a mining environment.
