About the Role

The North West: Engineering Assistant (Mining Industry) role at Marvel Placement Consultant requires a skilled and experienced individual to support engineering teams in a mining environment. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in mechanical and electrical maintenance processes, as well as knowledge of mining safety standards and regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist engineering teams with daily maintenance and repair activities.
  • Support breakdown maintenance and routine inspections on mining equipment and plant machinery.
  • Prepare and maintain tools, equipment, and materials required for maintenance tasks.
  • Ensure tools and work areas are kept clean, safe, and organised.
  • Assist with installation, servicing, and dismantling of mechanical and electrical components.
  • Provide general support during shutdowns and planned maintenance activities.
  • Adhere to mining health, safety, and environmental regulations at all times.
  • Report unsafe conditions, incidents, or equipment defects to supervisors.
  • Assist with maintenance records, checklists, and job cards.
  • Provide feedback to supervisors regarding maintenance progress and equipment conditions.

Requirements

  • Grade 12 / Matric certificate.
  • N2 Engineering qualification or relevant technical qualification will be advantageous.
  • Minimum of 2–4 years’ experience in a mining, plant, engineering, or heavy industrial environment.
  • Previous experience assisting artisans, fitters, electricians, or engineering teams on site.
  • Basic understanding of mechanical and electrical maintenance processes.
  • Knowledge of mining safety standards and regulations.
  • Ability to work shifts, overtime, and within demanding operational environments.
  • Good communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
  • Physically fit and capable of working in a mining environment.
